Mitchell Yards was built in 1906 by the DM&N Railroad.

It served as a Engine House for repairs of the locomotives as well as a train yard to rearrange cars to transport materials over the country.

Later it was taken over by the DM&IR Railroad.

Mitchell Yards was such an important hub for the transportation of materials it had its own town.

Ore from the West, North, and North West was routed through Mitchell Yards.

It served as the main yard from 1906 to 1960.

The flow of ore that came from Mitchell Yards was sent all over the United States, feeding factories supporting the world wars and industrialization of America
