Long before Columbus discovered America…

Many diverse people already called North America home…

such as the Caddo.

They were part of the Mississippian culture.

Mound Builders spread everywhere!

Around 800A.D., they migrated into east Texas…

Always living close to river valley systems.

They became the Hasinai Caddo.

They were also Mound Builders

The Chiefs and the elites governed.

They were also buried beneath the mounds.

Elaborate ceremonial rituals were used to build Mounds and Temples

The Caddo did not live in teepees!!!

Their homes were shaped like giant beehives.

They were farmers…

as well as skilled artisans.

Jeri Redcorn

They hunted using Atlatls…

and bows made from Bois d’arc wood.

Wild game was plentiful!

They even hunted black bears…

and occasionally bison…

To be continued…
