Greater Volatilityand Uncertainty on the Horizon

More than 500 globalexecutives spoke withthe Global BusinessPolicy Council aboutbusiness opportunitiesand challenges in theyear ahead.

82% of executives believethat economic volatilityand terrorism willintensify in 2015and early 2016.

76% expect the globalbusiness operatingenvironment tobecome more di�icult,especially because ofworsening policiesand regulations.

Environmental regulations arethe major source of policy concernin Europe (24%), while it is laborregulations in the Americas (24%)and product safety and standardsin Asia Pacific (25%).

43% of global executivescite changes in tax policyas a key operational challenge.

On a brighter note,77% expect emergingmarkets to leadglobal growthand investmentagain.

Similarly, 76%believe globalenergy andcommodityprices will remain low.

Global executivesare bullish on invest-ment opportunitiesin emerging markets(50%), particularlyChina and East Asia.

Greater business modele�iciency (45%) andtechnological innovation(44%) are the top twooperationalopportunities.

Cloud computing (21%),big data (17%), andmobile technology (16%)are cited as the mostimportant technologicalopportunities—but they arealso the most importanttechnologicalchallenges.
