Top ten interview tips from Ivan Au, Assurance Partner for PwC China and Hong Kong
Ever wondered what the Big 4 firms are looking for in a candidate? We’ve got the inside scoop from Ivan Au, Assurance Partner for PcW China and Hong Kong.
1. Read the job ad carefully for the key attributes and skills required by the role. Identify and highlight your key strengths that meet the needs of the role you are applying for.
2. Make sure the format of your CV is easy to follow. Put your name and page numbers at the top of your CV so that the people reading it don’t get it mixed up.
3. Be well prepared for your interview. Do some research and be aware of the opportunities and challenges faced by the company and industry.
4. Make sure you know the details of your CV; be able to directly relate your experience and qualifications to the job specifications when answering interview questions, and learn to highlight your strengths using real-life examples.
Check the location of your interview and your transport options in advance. Only arrive at the interview venue about five minutes early.
Show good manners. When the interviewer comes to greet you, stand up and offer your hand proactively. Shake hands firmly. Sit upright, always maintain eye contact and look interested. Turn off your mobile!
Be the one who steers the interview flow rather than passively responding to interviewer’s questions.
Ask smart questions during the interview. Have relevant questions prepared to show that you’re interested in the company and position on offer.
Show the interviewer that you’re passionate about working for the organisation and in the position you’re applying for and most importantly, be able to explain why.
Demonstrate with real-life examples that you’re a reliable and responsible person who would take ownership of any work assigned to you.
