INTRODUCTION
First of all, we had given a task to conduct a survey of comparatives analysis of any topics
between male and female for our Mathematics final project. Our survey focused on a very common
chronic disease Diabetes.
Even though diabetes is very common disease, but people generally know about diabetes is
developed due to a high level of blood glucose and some other common symptoms. Due to lack of
information of diabetes, people do not get attention on their diet, death rate of the disease is increasing all
over the world. We decide to target this issue on students in Taylor’s University and had prepared 16
questions related to the facts of diabetes such as symptoms, effects and factors of diabetes.
The purpose of this assignment is to survey the understanding of students about diabetes and
analyze the ratio of the answer from our respondents. Besides, we are also given a task to make statistical
analysis into a report and transfer 8 out of the 16 questions into infographic presentation board.
3
OBJECTIVES
We have 200 pieces of survey forms and differentiate it through gender which is 100 for male and
100 for female. Firstly, the aim of this assignment is to survey out whether male or female understand
more of the diabetes. Secondly is to calculate the data and make a report on the survey result. During we
calculating the data, it enables us to apply the knowledge gained to analyse statistical data and make a
conclusion from data. Beside, through this survey also improve our braveness to communicate with others
and also enhance our knowledge on diabetes. Lastly, it enhances teamwork ability and leadership while
conducting the survey and completing our report.

METHODOLOGY
Data for this report were gather and questionnaire survey was carried out after it. The
questionnaire were distributed to a total of 200 students in Taylor’s University which consist of 100 male
and 100 female students by 4 of our members. We held our survey in every corner of Taylor’s such as 5
level of library, commercial block, lecture theatre and classrooms.
After collecting all the questionnaires, we create a tables and diagrams to show the data based on
every of the questions. Moreover, we also calculated the mode, ratio and others equation related to
statistic.

A survey of the understanding level of female and male students in Taylor’s University on diabetes in
Malaysia. The table and graph below show the results of this survey.
Type of food Male Female
Candy 90 94
Instant Noodles 1 26
Fried Chicken 0 1
Soft Drinks 88 91
The figure above shows the numbers of people chose the given answers. 90% of male think that intaking
too much candy will cause diabetes while female is 4% more than male. There are low percentages of
male and female think that eating much Instant Noodles which are 1% and 2% respectively. Fried
Chicken is the least amount of ppl chose as the cause of diabetes which are 0% and 1% respectively can
cause diabetes. Both genders have a good understanding on the food of causing diabetes.
2.. Which of the following symptom can tell if a person carries diabetes?
Types of Symptom Male Female
Tiredness 63% 56%
10
Paralyse 21% 17%
High Blood Pressure 16% 27%
∴Mode of male= Tiredness
∴Mode of female= Tiredness
Based on the histogram, there are 16% of male and 27% of female choose high blood pressure. Paralyse is
the least amount with the ratio of 0.21:1 for male and 0.17:1 for female. In this question, both gender had
chosen the correct answer which is tiredness.
3. Which part of our body shows symptoms of diabetes?
11
∴ Mode of male: Swelling feet
∴ Mode of female: Swelling feet
The pie charts shows that female in this question has more understanding to it which is 87% but male is
just 79% . However, majority of the female chose the correct answer. Dry skin and cracked lips have a
total of 5% of female selecting it where male has 21%.
4.. Which of the following organ is affected by diabetes?
12
∴Mode of male: Pancreas
∴Mode of female: Pancreas
In this survey, students in Taylor’s University knowing the correct answer very well. Majority of them
chose pancreas 77% of male has chosen and 81% of female has chosen. The pancreas is a large gland
behind the stomach and next to the small intestine and small intestine is not the correct answer. When
pancreas fail to function it can not release powerful digestive enzymes into the small intestine to aid the
digestion of food. Moreover, it also fails to release the hormones insulin and glucagon into the
bloodstream as these hormones help the body control how it uses food for energy. This will lead a disease
called acute pancreatitis which is the disease after diabetes occur.
5.. Which of the following does a diabetes patients suffer from?
13
.
∴Mode of male: Kidney failure
∴Mode of female: Kidney failure
There are only 3 differences by amount in female compared to male in choosing kidney failure as their
answer where none of the female choose asthma and only 1 of the male chose it. For the heart attack, it
only occurs when one or more of your coronary arteries is blocked. Over time, a coronary artery can
narrow from the buildup of various substances, including cholesterol. Therefore, it has no way that related
to diabetes. As conclusion, most of the students have more understanding on symptoms of diabetes.
6.. Will diabetes happen on teenagers due to their inappropriate lifestyle such as :
14
Types of inappropriate lifestyle Male Female
Smoking 24% 72%
Lack of exercising 36% 41%
Irregular sleep time 7% 5%
Excessive intake of dessert 96% 87%
∴Mode of male: Excessive intake of dessert
∴Mode of female: Smoking
Throughout this question, most of the female think that smoking can cause diabetes which is 72 out of
100. We can predict that most of the female love eat dessert and they don’t think that excessive intake of
dessert is the answer. Conversely, male chose the correct answer which is excessive intake of dessert.
Moreover, almost the same amount of correct answers we got for both genders that is choosing lack of
exercising. In conclusion, smoking and irregular sleeping time will not lead to diabetes.
7.. An individual with obesity has a higher risk on carrying diabetes.
15
∴Mode of male: True
∴Mode of female: True
The graph shows that female had a slightly higher percentage of knowing the answer with 91% compared
to male which only had 88%. Most of them have got the correct answer though this question. Research
shows that people with excessive weight will lead 55% higher chance to carry diabetes than a person with
normal weight due to their eating habits and eating disorder. Hence, most of them have the answer right
by choosing true.
8.. Diabetes are more likely happen on people who often consume highsugar contained product.
16
∴Mode of male: 95%
∴Mode of female: 88%
In this survey, we can know that diabetes are more likely happen on people who often consume
highsugar contained products due to the results of the survey. 95% of male think that the answer is true
and 88% of female do think so. Highsugar contained product such as nougat, icecream, carbonated
drinks and so on which can lead a path to a person who gets addicted to it and often consuming them.
17
9. Is it possible for a patient to spread diabetes through sexual intercourse, saliva and skin contact
between people?
∴Mode of male: True
∴Mode of female: True
Although the mode of both of gender got the correct answer but female is 14% higher than male. We can
differentiate that female in this question has more understanding on it. All of the answer provided was
false as those action will not spread diabetes whereas it can only be spread in inheriting genetic.
18
10.. Will the baby get affected if their parents had diabetes?
∴Mode of male: True
∴Mode of female: True
The graph obviously shows that male has more understanding on this question which is 98% and 8%
higher than female. Yes, its true that a baby would get affected by their parents if they carry diabetes.
However if the affected individual controls on its diet, it will reduce the chances of getting diabetes.
19
11.. Which of the following will help to prevent diabetic neuropathy?
∴Mode of male: Control blood sugar
∴Mode of female: Control blood sugar
More than half of both genders think that controlling blood sugar is the way to prevent diabetic
neuropathy. For male, 25% of them chose that exercise can prevent diabetic neuropathy and another 25%
them chose that lowcarb diets will. For female, there are 14% of female thinking that exercise will
prevent diabetes and also 30% of them think that lowcarb diets will do.
20
12.. If you were a diabetes patient, how will you handle your situation?
∴Mode of male: Don’t skip medication
∴Mode of female: Don’t skip medication
Based on the figure above, it shows that most of male and female did choose “don’t skip medication” as
their answer which has an average of 81% for both of the gender. In fact, “don’t skip medication” is the
actual answer of this survey question which means that both of the genders have the basic knowledge of
treating a disease.
21
13. Is prediabetes considered a reversible condition?
∴Mode of male: True
∴Mode of female: True
In this question, majority of the respondents got the answer correctly which is 87% of male and 78% of
female. By research, prediabetes is reversible by losing weight through diet and exercise. If a diabetic
patient started eating healthier, get more exercise and lose weight, he or she can reduce the symptoms and
also prevent it to get worsen.
22
14. A diabetes patient is recommended to consume which type of sugar?
∴Mode of male: Brown sugar
∴Mode of female: Artificial sweetener
By looking at the graph, we can conclude that students might get confused on brown sugar and artificial
sweetener. However the true answer is artificial sweetener although brown sugar stands a healthy product
in majority people's perception. To sum it up, female has more understanding in this question as most of
them answered correctly.
23
15. Diabetes consists of 2 types which is ‘Type 1’ and ‘Type 2’. Which of the following is the key
facts of the type of diabetes?
∴Mode of male: Does not produce insulin ∴Mode of male: Insufficient insulin
∴Mode of female: Does not produce insulin ∴Mode of female: Insufficient insulin
Throughout the survey, most of the students questioned that ‘does diabetes consists of 2 types?’ and
something similar. Especially type 2 diabetes. The graph shows that there are quite amount of students
chose the wrong answer which is Low Glucose Level which is 29% of female and 36% of male.
However the students still did well by answering the answer related to insulin. Yes, it is true that diabetes
is caused by the insufficient amount of insulin in our body no matter type 1 or type 2.
24
16. Which type of diabetes is fatally damage to a person?
∴Mode of male: Type 2
∴Mode of female: Type 2
Both genders have an average of 64% that chose the correct answer which is the type 2 of diabetes can
lead a person to death as insufficient insulin contain in body. Insulin is an important element in our
body that helps to control blood glucose level by signaling the liver, muscle as well as the fat
cells to intake glucose from the blood. It helps cells to transfer glucose to energy form.

CONCLUSION
In a nutshell, the main objective of our survey is to gather and integrate all the information into a
complete table to investigate the understanding on diabetes of male and female. According to the
histograms, it shows that both parties (girls and boys) know that the main product that causes diabetes are
candies and soft drinks as they are contained with high level amount of sugar. To ensure the difference
between both parties about this topic, we set each kind of answers more specifically and the outcome was
slightly different and it shown that male is more familiar with the symptoms of diabetes. However
comparing to the organs that affected by diabetes, majority of the female answered correctly while the
boys had lesser correct answer. After that was to determine which party knows to avoid things that causes
diabetes and we found out that male is also better than female on this issue. This is mainly because a male
doesn’t consume desserts that often like a female does. We came up with this conclusion due to the mode
for both parties we found in the histogram in question 6. Male provided the mode of 80% and above
showing that the correct answer (excessive intake of dessert) is the main cause for diabetes. As female
provided a mode of 60% and above on smoking, we concluded that female prefers to consume desserts
more than male does. In addition, both genders know that diabetes cannot spread through sexual
intercourse, saliva and skin contact between people. They also know that diabetes can only be spread
through inheriting genetic as the data shown the mode of both genders are very close. Apart from that,
majority of both genders know that prediabetes is a reversible condition by eating healthier and to have
more exercises. As compared to male, female is better in knowing what kind of sugar does a diabetes
patient should intake. Based on the histogram, female shown the mode on artificial sweetener while male
shown the mode on brown sugar however the correct answer is artificial sweetener. Last but not least,
both genders know that insufficient insulin contain in our body will lead to diabetes regardless of type 1
or type 2 and both of them know that type 2 diabetes is fatally damaged to a person. All in all, we’ve
concluded that male has more understanding on diabetes than female. Besides, our questionnaire has also
indicated that general knowledge of diabetes for both genders are quite good as well.
