Bothell Landing | Style Guide 2
The City of Bothell is engaged in a three year process involving a number of highly qualified design firms to develop Bothell’s downtown center. Among the projects, a brand development and wayfinding program was provided by Destination Development International.
The branding exercise included the naming of Downtown Bothell to “Bothell Landing”. A logomark for the district was designed to distinguish it. In support of the new brand direction, a color palette, support fonts and printed collateral concepts were developed. The first part of this Style Guide includes controls and recommended interpretation of these elements.
The second part is a comprehensive wayfinding system.“Wayfinding” is a term used to describe a system of communication devices that direct visitors through an environment and to its key destinations.
This document includes examples of elements that represent sign types within the system. It illustrates general purpose and component details. It is not intended to be used as a fabrication manual, rather it communicates style and function for successful future implementation.
For more information about construction details, request a copy of the original bid documents by contacting a city representative on page 36 of this style guide.

Bothell Landing | Style Guide 3Introduction
A. The Bothell Landing logotype is derived from the Trajan font. It has been slightly modified with a arched baseline.
B. The green curved underline represents three elements found in Bothell Landing. It’s arched curve echoes the shape of the wooden foot bridge which is a central icon used in the City logo. It also represents the river’s edge which is a literal representation of the “Landing”. It subtly suggests a green horizon- a promise of good living within reach.
C. The light blue glow represents clean air– a place where one can breath, replenish and decompress. It also represents water meeting the shore.
While Bothell Landing offers a healthy environment for mind and body, it also represents a growing scientific community fueling a vibrant spirit of innovation and creative thinking.

Clear Space
Logo | Clear Space
A. It is important to maintain ample clear space around the Bothell Landing logo. Clear space is determined by the height of the “B” in the logotype.

Size
A. The suggested minimum size for a Bothell Landing logo with the light blue gradient is 1 1/2”.
B. The suggested minimum size for a Bothell Landing logo without the light blue gradient is 3/4”.
C. As a rule of thumb, the visible return thickness of a logo when reproduced as a dimensional, cut-
out graphic for signage, must not exceed the width of the thinnest stroke in the logotype.

The Bothell Landing logo has two principal versions which are considered the preferred graphic representations.
A. The first version includes a light blue horizon glow. It should be used when possible but only against a white or light cream background.
B. The second version is preferred for use in applications not suitable for gradients such as vinyl signage, embroidery, screen printing or for applications smaller than 1 1/2” wide.

Promotional mailers are most effective when sent out in a series, no more than a week apart. Oversized mailers get better visibility than the traditional 7” x 5” versions which usually get lost among other mail.
The graphic and photographic style used for the mailers should be similar to the brochures and ads to reinforce brand recognition.
Bothell Landing | Style Guide 19Wayfinding
Wayfinding
The Bothell Landing wayfinding system includes five basic sign types. Gateways (G) announce entrances into the Bothell Landing district. There are vehicular directionals (V) which include three sizes for specific legibility requirements. Among the vehicular directionals are iconic parking directionals which share sign poles and mounting substrates. Pedestrian directionals (P) assist pedestrian traffic between Bothell Landing and the campus areas. Finally, there are two types of kiosks (K). A large version includes a canopy, brochure dispenser, area map/directory and a lockable display case. The smaller version is intended for less traveled environments and only includes a map/directory and a lockable display case. Street banners (B) are designed with a changeable portion for seasonal or specific event related messages.

The anchor sign types of the Bothell Landing wayfinding system are the vehicular directionals with multiple messages. They direct traffic through Bothell Landing and to its destinations.
The largest directional, V1, is intended for wider streets and faster traffic. V2 is smaller and is used on narrower streets with slower traffic.
The signs are mounted to existing poles. Installation must be coordinated with Bothell Planning and Zoning. The mounting height is determined by D.O.T. regulations, existing signage and other pole-mounted elements. City Hall
