I was in charge of the design and drafting of the 5 star D’Angleterre Hotel, Copenhagen for Grand Metropolitan. This work also included site meetings and surveys, project management and working with contractors and clients in Copenhagen.
The D’Angleterre Hotel, Copenhagen for Grand Metropolitan, which was the first grand hotel of its kind in the world, and was in actual fact the venue for the signing of Germany’s surrender of Second World War by the allies, was acquired by Grand Metropolitan to be restored back to its original classical detail, as the flagship of the Grand Metropolitan Hotel Group. To this end, it was imperative that the whole ground floor entrance was restored and replanned. This work also included site meetings and surveys, working with Project Managers and clients in Copenhagen. I think the most important part of my involvement in the above commenced with flying to Copenhagen as the whole project was reliant on the Queen’s hairdresser who was resident on the ground floor being convinced by me, to relocate to the basement. This was done by means of sketches and illustrations of proposals which met with his approval prior to my departure back to London. In short, without me succeeding with this element, the entire project or design proposal being worked on in London, would not have been possible.
