The Happenings Around the Club
The unofficial start of the golf season is April, however, The Master’s tournament starts the golf season for most. With the early spring that hit in March, April will be a great month for golf. If the weather holds on through to May we should have a good transition.
The greens made it through the winter in pretty good shape. With the warmer temperatures in early and late March, the Champion Bermuda greened up and waited for consistent temperatures before actually growing. We did not fertilize to push growth until we were certain that the cold temperatures were gone. By pushing them to grow too soon we can harm the greens going into the early spring.
We will start the season mowing the rough at ¾″ and will continue to mow at this height for as long as we can. Starting this
low we should be able to keep the rough height under 1.5 inches this year. As thick as our rough gets in certain places, keeping it below 1.5 inches will help with some of the issues we have had in recent years.
