Soon Ang is Professor & Chair, Strategy, Management and Organization, atNanyang Business School, NTU Singapore & Founding Director for the Centerfor Cultural Intelligence (CCI). Her research includes international manage-ment; outsourcing; leadership development; and careers & work. She has pub-lished award winning papers in Academy of Management Journal, Manage-ment Science, Organization Science, Social Forces, Journal of OrganizationalBehavior, Journal of Management Studies, Information Systems Research, andothers. She recently co-authored a book on the theory of Cultural Intelligence(Stanford University Press, 2003) and is working on a follow-up book on thePractice of Cultural Intelligence.

Richard W. Brislin is Professor of Management and Industrial Relationsat the College of Business Administration, University of Hawaii. He is theco-developer of materials used in cross-cultural training programs (e.g., Inter-cultural Interactions: A Practical Guide (2nd edn, 1996) and is author of a textin cross-cultural psychology (Understanding Culture’s Influence on Behavior,2nd edn, 2000). One of his books, The Art of Getting Things Done: A Prac-tical Guide to the Use of Power, was a Book of the Month Club Selection in1992. He is frequently asked to give workshops for American and Asian man-agers working on international assignments, and the training materials he hasprepared are widely used in various international organizations. He writes aweekly newspaper column on understanding cultural differences in the work-place for the Honolulu Star Bulletin. Susan Brodt is Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior at Queen’sSchool of Business, Queen’s University (Canada). She received her Ph.D. inpsychology from Stanford University. Her research focuses on negotiation andbusiness relationships with an emphasis on how people construe or interprettheir social environment and its effects on conflict, negotiation and interper-sonal trust. She has studied attribution processes and trust, trust rebuilding,

and the role of psychological attachment in negotiation and problem solving.Most recently, she has researched the interplay between communication tech-nology, conflict and trust, in geographically distributed multi-cultural teams.Her work has appeared in psychology as well as management journals.

Garry D. Bruton is Associate Professor of Management at the M.J. NeeleySchool of Business at the Texas Christian University, Fort Worth. He special-izes in entrepreneurship and strategic management in emerging internationalmarkets. His research interests include strategic alliances, corporate restruc-turing, high technology entrepreneurship, and venture capital. His prior re-search has appeared in Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Manage-ment Journal, and the Journal of Business Venturing, among other publica-tions.

John Butler is Professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He hasalso taught at universities in Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore. He served asChair of the South East Asia Studies Program at the University of Washington,and much of his research relates to this region. Currently, he serves as edi-tor for Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice and series editor for Research inEntrepreneurship and Management.

Michael Carney is Professor in the Management Department, John MolsonSchool of Business, Concordia University, Montreal, Canada. He received hisPh.D. in 1984 from the University of Bradford, U.K. His research focuses uponthe relationship between corporate strategy, restructuring processes and regu-latory reform. In the context of Asia, he is interested in the intergenerationaldevelopment of overseas Chinese Business Groups. His work on strategy andorganization structure has been published in Strategic Management Journal,Organization Studies, Journal of Management Studies, and the Asia PacificJournal of Management.

Wai Chamornmarn is Associate Professor of Human Resources and Or-ganization Management, Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, ThammasatUniversity, Bangkok, Thailand. He has served as the Associate Director of theInstitute of East Asian Studies and his research interests are in the area of entre-preneurship, management values, technological innovation, and the historicaldevelopment of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial behavior in Thailand.

Nobuyuki Chikudate is currently Associate Professor of Organizationstudies in the Department of Management Studies, Graduate School of SocialScience, Hiroshima University, Japan. He was born in March, 1963. He re-ceived his Ph.D. from State University of New York at Buffalo, and completedthe postdoctoral training at the Johns Hopkins University. Formerly, he taught

at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Asia University-Japan, and so on. Hisspecialities include methodological issues, comparative studies, and culturalstudies of organizations. His major publications appeared in such journals asJournal of Applied Behavioral Science, Journal of Business Ethics, and Jour-nal of Management Studies.

John Child holds the Chair of Commerce in the Birmingham BusinessSchool, University of Birmingham, U.K. His M.A. and Ph.D. are from theUniversity of Cambridge, which also awarded him an ScD for his outstandingscholarly work. In 2002, he was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Manage-ment, and in 2003 received the first Distinguished Contribution Award of theInternational Academy for Chinese Management Research. Professor Child isauthor or co-author of 17 books and over 120 articles in learned journals. Hisnew book Organization: Contemporary Principles and Practice will be pub-lished by Blackwell in 2004.

Eric Gedajlovic is Associate Professor in the Management Department atthe University of Connecticut. Previously he was the Associate Professor ofInternational Business at Erasmus University and the Rotterdam School ofManagement. His research interests pertain to the influence of governance,financial and enterprise systems on firm behaviour, capability creation and per-formance. His research has appeared in Organization Studies, Strategic Man-agement Journal, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of ManagementStudies and the Asia Pacific Journal of Management.

Chun Hui received his Ph.D. from Indiana University at Bloomington,U.S.A. and is currently Professor at the Department of Management, the Chi-nese University of Hong Kong. His research interests include leadership, con-flict management, selection, performance appraisal, comparative managementand Chinese management. He has published in major management journals,including Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology,Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and Journal of In-ternational Business Studies.

Stephen Ko is Lecturer of Management and Marketing at the Hong KongPolytechnic University. He received an MBA from the Chinese University ofHong Kong, and has taught at universities in Hong Kong. His research focuseson entrepreneurship in high technology firms.

Daryl Koehn holds the Cullen Chair in Business Ethics at the University ofSt. Thomas in Houston. She founded and edits the Online Journal of Ethics.Her books include The Ground of Professional Ethics, Rethinking Feminist

Ethics: Care, Trust, Empathy, and Local Insights, Global Ethics for Busi-ness, Corporate Governance: Ethics Across the Board, and Trust: Barriersand Bridges. In additional to scores of journal articles in several languages,Professor Koehn regularly publishes in business newspapers and journals. Sheis routinely quoted in The New York Times and has been interviewed severaltimes on National Public Radio. She has been profiled in Time and Life maga-zines.

Jessica Y. Y. Kwong is Assistant Professor in the Department of Marketingat The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She received her Ph.D. in industrial-organizational psychology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She hasinterests in organizational justice, personality and work performance, and judg-ment and decision-making processes.

Hailan Lan is Professor of Management and Dean of the School of Busi-ness of Southern China University of Technology in Guangzhou, China. Hestudies competitive dynamics and strategic management in large businessgroups, and has published extensively in China and in the Academy of Man-agement Executive.

Cynthia Lee received her Ph.D. from University of Maryland and is cur-rently Associate Professor at Northeastern University. Her current research fo-cuses on managing change, motivation, performance management, and Chi-nese management including group processes and effectiveness, understandingthe changing nature of psychological contracts, workplace justice, and effectsof job insecurity. She has published in major management journals, includingAcademy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organiza-tional Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and Journal of Management.

Alicia S. M. Leung is Assistant Professor in the Department of Manage-ment at Hong Kong Baptist University. She holds a Ph.D. in ManagementLearning from the University of Lancaster, U.K. Her research interests includegender issues and feminist methodology, business ethics, organizational be-havior, and strategic management in the Asian context.

Kwok Leung (Ph.D. in Psychology, University of Illinois) is Professor ofmanagement, City University of Hong Kong. His research interests includejustice, conflict, and culture, and he has published widely in these areas. He iscurrently the Editor of Asian Journal of Social Psychology, an associate editorof Asia Pacific Journal of Management, and a departmental editor of Jour-nal of International Business Studies. He is on the editorial board of severaljournals, including Journal of Applied Psychology, Applied Psychology: AnInternational Review, and Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology.

Brent Mac Nab is a double Fulbright Scholar and is Lecturer on Asia-Pacific strategy and organizational behavior at the University of Hawaii. Hisprofessional interests include research within a range of relevant manage-ment topics, including ethics management, Asia-Pacific strategy, NAFTA re-search and motivation. The common element of cross-cultural psychology nor-mally encompasses his work. In addition to his academic endeavors, Brent hasworked directly on projects with organizations including BankAmerica Corp.,AT&T Wireless and Volkswagen of America, Inc. in aspects of managementand promotion. Kok Yee Ng is Assistant Professor in Organizational Behavior and HumanResource Management in the Division of Strategy, Management & Organiza-tion at the Nanyang Business School. She received her Ph.D. from MichiganState University, with a major in Organizational Behavior and minor in I/OPsychology. Her research interests are in cross cultural I/O psychology and in-ternational organizational behavior, focusing in areas such as resource dilem-mas, extra-role behavior, leadership and negotiation. She has published in theJournal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior And Human DecisionProcesses, and Management Science.

Mara Olekalns currently teaches negotiation at the Melbourne BusinessSchool. Before joining MBS, Professor Olekalns taught organisational behav-iour for the Department of Management at Melbourne University, and the De-partment of Psychology at the University of Otago (New Zealand). She hasalso worked for several Australian government departments, in research andmanagement roles. Professor Olekalns’ research examines the relationshipsbetween how individuals think about negotiation, what they do and say duringthe negotiation, and their outcomes. The aim of her research is to help negotia-tors understand and improve the process of negotiating, so that they can createbetter agreements.

Nitin Pangarkar received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in1993. He teaches strategy and international business courses at the NationalUniversity of Singapore. Previously, he has held visiting academic positionsat the University of Minnesota (USA) and the Helsinki School of Economics(Finland). His research interests lie in the areas of strategic management andinternational business—specifically cross-border strategic alliances, mode ofentry and global strategy. Dr Pangarkar’s research has been published in theform of several international journal articles, conference proceedings, cases,and book chapters. He is a co-author of Business Strategy in Asia: A Casebook(2nd edition) published by Thomson Learning in 2003/04.

Hun-Joon Park (Ph.D., The Ohio State University) is Professor of Man-agement and Associate Dean at Yonsei School of Business, Seoul, Korea. He

was Director at the Korea Research Foundation and Visiting Associate Profes-sor at the Ohio State University and Bowling Green State University. He hasalso served as Managing Director for the Korea Institute of Management CaseResearch. He has been actively involved in consulting with many Korean firmsin addition to his contributions to the academic community. He has publishedarticles in Academy of Management Journal, Organizational Behavior and Hu-man Decision Processes, Journal of Business Ethics, Asia Pacific Business Re-view, International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management,and many other Korean academic journals. His research interests include topmanagement team, corporate governance, leadership, and negotiation.

Oded Shenkar is the Ford Motor Company Chair in Global Business Man-agement at the Fisher College of Business, The Ohio State University. Profes-sor Shenkar, who also holds a degree in East-Asian Studies, has been studyingcomparative and international management for a quarter of a century and isparticularly interested in cross-border alliances. He has published over eightyrefereed articles and books with Blackwell, M.E. Sharpe, Prentice-Hall, Rout-ledge and John Wiley & Sons, and is on the editorial board of the Academyof Management Executive, Human Relations, Management International Re-view, Organization Studies, International Journal of Cross-Cultural Manage-ment and Journal of International Business Studies.

Kulwant Singh is Associate Professor of Business Policy at The NationalUniversity of Singapore. He studies competition and alliances in technologyintensive and rapidly changing industries, as well as strategy and competitionin Asia. His research has been published in Strategic Management Journal,Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Manage-ment, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, and Industrial andCorporate Change.

Jai B. B. Sinha is Professor of psychology & management in ASSERT In-stitute of Management Studies, Patna (India). He has taught in India, USA, andCanada. Professor Sinha has been associated with International Association ofApplied Psychology, the International Association for Cross Cultural Psychol-ogy and World Association for Dynamic Psychiatry. He has published over 150research articles and half a dozen books, some of which are Multinationals inIndia: Managing the Interface of Cultures, Patterns of Work Culture, CulturalContext of Leadership and Power, Work Culture in the Indian Context: TheNurturant Task Leader, and Some Problems of Public Sector Organizations.

Steven Su is Assistant Professor at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France andSingapore. His work focuses on the intersection between cultural psychol-ogy and Organizational Behavior. Steve received his Ph.D. from the GraduateSchool of Business at Stanford University.

Sang-Hyeon Sung is chief researcher and consultant in the field of HRMand organization at Samsung Economic Research Institute (SERI), Seoul, Ko-rea. He has designed and provided consultancy to HRM architectures in indus-tries of electronics, insurance, investment banking, petrochemical, textiles, andpaper. His research interests include group dynamics, diversity, virtual organi-zation, and strategic human resources management. He graduated from SeoulNational University (BA) and Yonsei School of Business (MBA), and is cur-rently a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) in management at Yonsei School of Business.

Catherine H. Tinsley is Associate Professor at the McDonough School ofBusiness at Georgetown University, having received her Masters and Ph.D. inOrganizational Behavior from J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management atNorthwestern University. She is a faculty affiliate at the School for AdvancedInternational Studies at John’s Hopkins University, the Center for Peace andSecurities Studies at the Edmund Walsh School of Foreign Service, and isa Zaeslin fellow at the College of Law and Economics, University of Basel.She studies how factors such as culture, reputations, negotiator mobility, andperceptions of fairness influence how people negotiate and how they manageconflict.

Dean Tjosvold (Ph.D., University of Minnesota) is Chair Professor, Ling-nan University, Hong Kong. In 1992, Simon Fraser University awarded him aUniversity Professorship for his research contributions. He has published over200 articles and fifteen books on managing conflict, cooperation and competi-tion, decision making, power, and other management issues. He is past presi-dent of the International Association of Conflict Management and has servedon several editorial boards, including the Academy of Management Review,Journal of Management and Journal of Organizational Behavior. He is a part-ner in his family health care business, which has 600 employees and is basedin Minnesota.

Steven White is Assistant Professor of Asian Business and ComparativeManagement at INSEAD. He studies the dynamics of organizational change,interorganizational relationships, and cross-cultural management issues. Hiswork has appeared in the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Man-agement Studies, Organization Studies, Research Policy and Asia Pacific Jour-nal of Management.

Alfred Wong is Associate Professor of Management and Associate BBAProgramme Director at Lingnan University in Hong Kong. Before he joinedLingnan in 1991, he had worked in the business field for several years. Heearned his Ph.D. from Sheffield Hallam University, UK. Alfred Wong’s re-search interests include supply chain management, quality management, lead-

He has published research articles in international jour-nals including International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Man-agement, International Journal of Quality and Reliability Management, In-ternational Journal of Technology Management, Journal of General Manage-ment, Logistics Information Management, The Leadership & Organization De-velopment Journal and Total Quality Management.

Zhixing Xiao is Ph.D. candidate at INSEAD and will join CEIBS (ChinaEurope International Business School) in Shanghai as a resident faculty mem-ber in 2004. Before he joined the INSEAD Ph.D. program, he worked for amultinational company and a state-owned company in China. His research fo-cuses on comparative management issues, social capital, social networks andguanxi.

Lu Yuan is Professor at Department of Management, Chinese University ofHong Kong, where he teaches strategic management, management of Chinesefirms, and general management. Dr. Lu received his Ph.D. degree in 1991 at theUniversity of Aston, Birmingham, the United Kingdom, and then worked as aresearch associate at School of Management, the University of Lancaster. Priorto joining Chinese University of Hong Kong, he was the Rothmans ResearchFellow at the Judge Institute of Management Studies, University of Cambridge(1993–96). His research focuses on strategic decision-making, Chinese man-agement, and international strategic alliances. Dr. Lu Yuan has played a lead-ing role in a number of research projects studying international joint venturesand multinational corporations in China and strategic management in Chinesefirms. His current research concerns strategic management in the digital econ-omy, business networks, mergers and acquisitions, diversification and restruc-turing strategies in China. Dr. Lu Yuan is author of Management Decision-making in Chinese Enterprises (1996, by Macmillan) and co-editor of Man-agement Issues for China in the 1990s: International Enterprises (1996, Rout-ledge). He has also contributed to publications in Academy of ManagementExecutives, Organization Studies, Organization Science, Journal of GeneralManagement, International Journal of Human Resource Management, andJournal of World Business. Apart from academic research, he also acts as aconsultant to multinational corporations and Chinese companies on strategicmanagement and management of joint ventures. He was recently invited to bean external advisor to the Strategy Committee of Guangdong Kelon ElectricalCorp.
