Tripura Current Affairs 2020 Tripura Mukhyamantri Matru Pushti Uphaar Scheme Tripura government has launched Mukhyamantri Matru Pushti Uphaar Scheme on 25 June 2020.

Under this scheme, the state govt. will provide nutrition kits to pregnant women and lactating

mothers absolutely free of cost.

This CM Matru Pushti Uphaar Scheme is a part of the state govt’s efforts to fight malnutrition and

maternal mortality.

The state govt. is expected to incur an expenses of around Rs. 8 crore per annum on this initiative.

The Tripura Mukhyamantri Matru Pushti Uphaar Yojana was announced by the State Minister for

Social Welfare and Social Education Santana Chakma.

Around 40,000 pregnant / lactating women would be benefited from the nutrition kits and the cost

of each kit is approx. Rs. 500.

The new scheme for pregnant / lactating women in Tripura will be in addition to the Pradhan

Mantri Matru Bandana Yojana in which Rs. 5000 each was given to 58,996 beneficiaries after the

birth of their first child.

Click here for Current Affairs PDF Tripura Ektu Khelo Ektu Padho Scheme Tripura state government launched Ektu Khelo Ektu Padho Scheme for students amid Coronavirus

lockdown. It is an activity based learning project to engage students during COVID-19 pandemic

outbreak.

This special project is scheduled has kick-started from 25 June 2020.

As per the Play Little Study Little scheme, the students would be sharing audio and video contents

on learning activities, projects along with fun and gaming activities via SMS or WhatsApp services.

The Education state headquarters would share the learning contents to different district academic

coordinators.

These coordinators would share the same to headmasters of the schools in their concerned areas.

Headmasters would engage their teachers to monitor the process and would be responsible for

reporting back with feedback and any hiccups found in the exercise.

The Tripura state has 4,398 government and its aided schools and 335 private schools. Around 5

lakh students study in these schools across the state which also includes 1 lakh students admitted

in the private schools.

Now the students of all these schools will get benefited from the new Play Little Study Little

Scheme.

Tripura state government has launched Bochor Bachao (Save Year) Scheme 2020-21 for class 12th

students. In this scheme, TBSE will allow students who fails in 2 subjects but have secured 150

marks can save their year.

They can now take admission in colleges and pursue their higher education. Accordingly, these

children will have to clear a re-test within 75 days of results to continue higher education.

Earlier if any candidates were failed in any exam, they were not allowed to take admission in

colleges till they clear all subjects in class 12th.

But now to save wastage of year, TBSE has started Bochor Bachao Scheme. The examination session

begins as HS students are now taking papers.

The exams are being conducted across 86 examination venues in 60 districts. The Ucchh

Madhyamik examinations are being held in 158 venues in 77 centres.

A total of 27,142 candidates which includes 13,908 male and 13,234 girl students are writing their

higher secondary exam papers this year.

The HS examinations will continue till 31 March and Madhyamik examinations of new pattern and

new syllabus are scheduled to be held till 21 March 2020.

The state education board also holds matriculation exams simultaneously for students appearing

for old pattern and syllabus which would be held till 27 March 2020..

In the Madhyamik segment exams, around 50,569 examinees will write their papers this year

compared to 46,633 from 2019-20. As per the old regulations, any student who fails in 1 subject

and have minimum of 150 marks could appear their failed papers in compartmental category.

The new Tripura Bochor Bachao System would allow any student who failed in 2 subjects but has a

minimum of 150 marks to get an entry in colleges.

All such candidates will be allowed to appear re-test within 75 days and pass it in order to save

their year.

All the supplementary examinations of such candidates would also undergo a name change. This

scheme will benefit those students who fails due to genuine problems like severe ailments, dire

conditions.

This Bochor Bachao Scheme will provide them with second chance at cracking exams without

losing their full year.

Tripura Super 30 Scheme Tripura state government has launched a new scheme namely Super 30 Scheme for the academic

year 2020-21. This scheme would be launched to help students of Tripura state to crack the

engineering (IIT / JEE) and medical (MBBS) entrance examinations conducted.

This scheme is based on Super 30 programme of the Patna based mathematician Anand Kumar.

Education Minister of Tripura said that Super 30 Scheme will fund 30 students from science stream

in the state to get coaching at Kota based coaching centers.

This Free Coaching Scheme will enable students to crack the engineering and medical exams every

year.

All those students who miss out on educational opportunities, training courses, tuitions due to lack

of economic or other resources would be benefited from this new educational scheme.

Ayushman Tripura Yojana Tripura state government has launched a new healthcare scheme on lines of Ayushman Bharat –

PM Jan Arogya Yojana. The new scheme will be named as Ayushman Tripura Scheme & will provide

cashless and paperless treatment upto Rs. 5 lakh.

Poor people will get this free of cost treatment at all government and private empanelled hospitals.

Ayushman Tripura Scheme would cover 3.57 lakh persons and issuance of cards to the beneficiaries

would cost the state exchequer around Rs. 9 crores.

Poor people will be either benefited by the Ayushman Bharat Scheme or Ayushman Tripura.

As the Ayushman Bharat Scheme only covers those whose name is present in SECC 2011 data but

this scheme will cover all poor people.

The state govt. will introduce Ayushman Tripura Scheme soon where poor people will not have to

pay anything to avail treatment.

Atal Jaldhara Yojana Tripura state government has launched Atal Jaldhara Yojana to ensure free water supply

connection to every family in the state. This scheme is going to resolve the problem of providing

clean water to each and every household.

This domestic water supply connection scheme is a tribute to the former Prime Minister of India,

Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji.

Tripura govt. will provide free water supply connections to provide pure and drinking water.

PM Narendra Modi has given the clarion call to carry forward the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi to

ensure Swaraj in the nation. Atal Jaldhara Yojana is a step forward in that direction.

Through this water supply connection scheme, the state govt. is going to realize the philosophy of

Antyodaya given by Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya.

Capitals of NE states to be connected through rail network by 2023 Indian Railways has announced the connectivity of all capitals of North-Eastern (NE) states through

rail network by 2023. Railways is already implementing a project in this regard.

The capitals of Assam, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh are already connected. The work to connect

capitals of Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Meghalaya is in progress.

In Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya, the capital connectivity work is in progress. Manipur

will be connected in March 2022, Mizoram in March 2023, Nagaland in March 2023, Meghalaya in

March 2022 and Sikkim in December 2022.

Apart from above, attempts to connect every part of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) to the railway are

also underway, and the 111 km Katra-Banihal rail link project is likely to be completed by December

2022.

First-ever Bharat-Bangla tourism festival 2020 held in Agartala The first-ever 2 days long Bharat-Bangla Paryatan Utsav 2020 was held at Ujjayanta Palace in

Agartala, Tripura from February 20-21, 2020 to boost the Tripura tourism sector.

It was inaugurated by Tripura Chief Minister (CM) Biplab Kumar Deb & organized by Department of

Tourism, Government of Tripura in memories of the contribution of Tripura in 1971 Bangladesh

liberation war.

The key attraction of the festival includes Seminars, discussions, cultural events etc.

The festival saw the participation of Tourism minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Bangladesh Assistant

High Commissioner to Tripura Kiriti Chakma, MP(Member of Parliament) Pratima Bhowmik, MP

from Bangladesh Md. Abdus Saheed (who paid tribute to the Indians, who helped Bangladesh in the

1971 liberation war) and many other officials of Bangladesh.

Tripura celebrated Lai Haraoba Festival Tripura celebrated Lai Haraoba festival for 5 days by the Meitei community. The community is spread

across Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya, Myanmar and Bangladesh. However, the festival is

widely celebrated in the state of Manipur.

Lai Haraoba festival is celebrated by Meitei people to please sacred trees called “Umang Lai”. They

speak the language called “Meiteilon”. The Lai Haraoba Festival in the state of Manipur is celebrated

in the month of May.

Umang Lai are the sacred trees that are preserved for the local forest deities. The trees have

significant place in Sanamahism.

The followers of the religion mainly worship elements of nature such as mountains, water and fire.

According to 2011 census, around 8% of Manipur population are following Sanamahism.

There are 22 languages in the Eighth Schedule of Constitution. Article 346 says that Hindi in

Devanagari script is the official language. However, English is also allowed to be used as official

language.

The Language Meiteilon (also called Manipuri) is included in the Eighth Schedule of Constitution of

India.

Tripura launched Mukhyamantri Matru Pushti Uphaar Scheme The state government of Tripura launched Mukhyamantri Matru Pushti Uphaar scheme to provide

nutrition kits to pregnant and lactating women. The scheme is a part of the state’s efforts to fight

malnutrition and maternal mortality. The scheme was announced by state Minister for Social Welfare

and Social Education Santana Chakma.

The government expects to incur an expenses of about Rs 8 crore annually for this scheme.

The scheme will be in addition to the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) under which

Rs 5000 each was given to 58,996 beneficiaries, after the birth of their first child.

Nutrition kit- Each nutrition kit will cost Rs 500 & will have food items and grocery supplies, such as

peanuts, soya beans, mixed pulses, jaggery and ghee.

Pregnant women will be tested 4 times in nearby Primary Health Centers (PHC) and the kit will be

given after each test. Nutrition kit will be given after each test as per the Matru Pushti Uphaar scheme.

iii.Beneficiaries– Around 40, 000 women will be benefited under the scheme.

Scientists rediscovered ‘Ypthima watsoni’ butterfly after 61 years in Tripura Scientist have rediscovered ‘Ypthima watsoni’ butterfly after 61 years near a village called

Phuldungsei in Jampui Hills under the North Tripura district. The research paper regarding this

discovery was published in the Journal of Entomology and Zoology Studies.

Ypthima watsoni, 1893 belongs to the subfamily Styrene and family Nymphalidae of insect order Lepidoptera ii.The species was 1st reported and described byZoologist Frederic Moore in the year

1893-1896 from two different places in Myanmar. It was last seen in Manipur in 1958.

The research was done by Suman Bhowmik, Head of the department of Lepidoptera conservation &

research division of Wild Tripura Foundation, Agartala, Tripura with Sandip Malakar and Atanu Bora

The Wild Tripura Foundation is a Government registered Trust. It supports and helps to study

Lepidoptera diversity of Tripura.

Statehood Day of Tripura The people of Tripura celebrated their Statehood Day on January 21. On the same day in 1972,

Tripura became full-fledged states under the North Eastern Region Act, 1971. This year, the state

celebrate their 48th Statehood day.

Many National Leaders including the Prime Minister and the President expressed their wishes to the

states on their Statehood day and greeted the cultural heritage and traditions of the North-Eastern

states.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi through his social media twitter account greeted the

people of the three states in three individual tweets.

Cultural events and programs were organized at the state capital of Meghalaya, Shillong which was

attended by the Chief Minister of the state, Conrad K Sangma in which he gave away the Meghalaya

Day award to the state government employees.

During the day, similar events were conducted in Manipur and Tripura, both states were merged into

the Indian Union in 1949, and became a fully-fledged state in 1972.

Agreement to end Bru-Reang Refugee Crisis The Bru-Reang Refugee Crisis came to an ended after signing of an agreement in New Delhi between

the Government of India, State Government of Tripura, Bru-Reang representatives and the State

Government of Mizoram.

The Union Minister of Home Affairs, Amit Shah presided over the historic signing that is in line with

the vision of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi for the empowerment of the people of the

North-Eastern region of the country through policy-level interventions.

With the aid of the Central Government, under the agreement signed, at Tripura, about 34,000 Bru

Refuguess will be settled for them the Government of Tripura will be providing land, as the Central

Government through a package of Rs 600 crores will help in their rehabilitation and development.

The Minister informed that residential plots of 40×30 sq.ft will be provided to the displaced families

along with free ration for 2 years, to build their houses Rs 1.5 lakh assistance. Rs 5 thousand per

month for 2 years along with a fixed deposit of Rs 4 lakh will be provided.

Tripura Govt launched ‘Ektu Khelo, Ektu Padho’ for school students Tripura state government has launched the ‘Ektu Khelo, Ektu Padho’(Play little, Study little’), an

initiative for school students upto class VIII.

Students with access to android phones will get audio and video contents on learning

activities,projects with fun and gaming activities through WhatsApp. Others will get through SMS.

Every morning the lessons & assignments will be sent to the mobile phones. The feedback on their

performance will be collected in the afternoon.

The Tripura education department will share the learning contents to different district academic

coordinators.

They will share the contents to the school headmasters in their concerned areas. The headmasters

will then give teachers the responsibility to share the contents among the students.

The Tripura state government has decided to start a scheme for school students from 25th June 2020.

The scheme is named ‘Ektu Khelo, Ektu Padho’ –meaning ‘Play Little, Study Little’.

The scheme will be implemented via SMS or WhatsApp. For students, those who have access to

smartphones of their parents will be able to access the scheme through WhatsApp. For students

having feature phones, they will be able to access through SMS.

The objective of the scheme is to make sure that students invest their time in studies during these

times of uncertainty as it could still take a couple of months for schools to reopen due to the COVID-

19 pandemic.

As per the scheme name ‘Play little’, students apart from studies will also be provided with fun and

games activities. The scheme will benefit students from 4,398 government-aided and 335 private

schools across the state.

Tripura announced Mukhyamantri Matru Pushti Uphaar Social Welfare and Social Education Minister of Tripura announced on 24th June 2020 that the State

Government will launch an ambitious scheme named Mukhyamantri Matru Pushti Uphaar under

which nutrition Kits will be provided to pregnant and lactating women.

The Central Government’s Pradhan Mantri Matru Bandana Yojana will also be applicable in the state

for pregnant and lactating women.

The objective of the scheme by the State Government is to combat infant and maternal mortality in

the state. The nutrition Kit provided under the scheme will further help the state government in its

efforts against malnutrition.

At the Primary Health Centers of the state, pregnant women would undergo periodic check-ups. The

nutrition kit will be provided to them from the Primary Health Centers after the checkup.

A pregnant woman will be eligible for 4 such Nutrition Kits, this Kits will be provided after periodical

check-ups.

The Kit would contain food items and grocery supplies such as jaggery, ghee, soyabeans, mixed

pulses, etc.

1st Hornbill festival celebrated in Tripura The Hornbill festival was celebrated in Tripura at Baramura hill for the 1st time to raise awareness

among people for bird conservation & to boost tourism.

The Baramura hill was renamed as “Hathai Kotor” during kokborok Day celebrations on January

19,2020. The Barmura hill is a traditional culture of conserving birds.

The 2 day festival includes technical sessions on conservation of biodiversity in the state, folk dances,

skits, dramas on nature conservation.

The Hornbill festival is a celebration held every year from December 1 to 10, in Nagaland, Northeast

India. It is also called the ‘Festival of Festivals’.

Arunachal Pradesh & Manipur also started organising Hornbill festival following Nagaland.

Tripura Performed best in Annual TB Report 2020 Government of India renamed the ‘National Tuberculosis Control Program’ to the ‘National

Tuberculosis Elimination Program’. In a virtual event, the Annual TB Report 2020 was released on

24th June 2020. The Report was released by Dr. Harsh Vardhan (Union Health Minister).

New cases notified in 2019 in India: 24.04 lakh. This as compared to 2018, amounts for a 14%

increase in TB notification. Out of 24.04 lakh new cases, 6,64,584 cases were reported from the

private healthcare sector.

Expanded provision of financial assistance provided through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to

beneficiaries of 4 schemes under the NIKSHAY System

Almost every rural area in the country has been covered with the help of more than 4.5 lakh DOT

Centres.

Number of missing cases significantly reduced to 2.9 lakh as compared to above 10 lakh missing cases

in 2017

HIV testing for all notified TB patients increased to 81 % in 2019. This was 67% in 2018.

States were divided based on their population as larger and smaller states. All states having more

than 50 lakh population were under larger states while states with less than 50 lakh population were

under smaller states.

In the larger state category, Gujarat was awarded as the best-performing state followed by Andhra

Pradesh and Himanchal Pradesh at 2nd and 3rd place. In smaller states, both Nagaland and Tripura

were awarded as best performers.

Among Union Territories, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu was awarded as the best

performer.

Tripura launched national scholarship online portal under ‘Mukhyamantri Yuba Yogayog Yojana’ Tripura state government has launched a National Scholarship online portal website under

‘Mukhyamantri Yuba Yogayog Yojana’, an incentive scheme at the state secretariat so that students

can apply for this scheme for the Academic Year 2019-20.

The scheme was announced by the Education Minister of Tirupura, Ratan Lal Nath on 4th March 2020

during a meeting of the council of ministers.

To provide grants for the purchase of smartphones to the students of final year to empower them

digitally & help them leverage the advantages of an interconnected world.

Through the implementation of the scheme, the student will be able to get employment through

internet platforms.

A student must be in the final year of the course in an undergraduate degree in any government

college/Institute/University in Tripura.

The student must be a resident of Tripura state & must be studying in a college resided in Tripura

state.

Ministry of Home Affairs sanctions funds for Sabroom ICP Home Affairs Ministry has sanctioned Rs.365 crores for constructing New Integrated Check Post of

about 130 km at Sabroom, Tripura. This is the second Integrated Check Post to be built along the

Indo-Bangla border.

This Integrated Check Post is built to link the bridge of river Feni with Chittagong division of the

neighbouring country.

The Akhaura Integrated Check Post is the First check post built in the Indo-Bangla border at Agartala,

Tripura in 2013.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi informed that Tripura will be awarded as the fastest-growing state in

the country and Agartala will receive the fastest growing city award.

The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Tripura to attract investments (1st SEZ in Tripura) is being set

up at Paschim Jalefa, Sabroom.

Click here for Current Affairs PDF Centre approved Funds for Implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in Tripura For the year 2020-21, the fund allocation for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in Tripura has

been increased from Rs 107.64 Crore to Rs 156.61 Crore. With an opening balance of Rs 136.45 Crore

available with the State and along with this year’s allocation of Rs 156.61 Crore, and considering the

State matching share, a total of Rs 320.16 Crore will be available with the state.

State has planned to provide 100% Functional Household Tap Connection by 2023 under JJM.

In 2020-21, Tripura has been allocated Rs 191 Crore as 15th Finance Commission Grants to PRIs and

50% of this amount is mandatorily to be utilized for water supply & sanitation. Funds provided under

Swachh Bharat Mission (G) is to be utilized for grey water treatment and reuse works.

JJM aims to enable every rural household has assured availability of potable water at a service level

of 55 litres per capita per day (lpcd) on regular and long-term basis.

As a mission target, all states are presenting their implementation plans to the National level

Committee headed by Secretary, Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Govt. of India for

approval.

The estimated outlay of the mission is Rs 3.60 Lakh Crore with Central and State share of Rs. 2.08

Lakh Crore and Rs.1.52 Lakh Crore respectively.

Tripura Govt and AAI signed MoU for construction of 6 equipment hiring centers at Tripura Tripura State Government and Airport Authority of India signed a Memorandum of

Understanding for the construction of the 6 equipment hiring centers in Manu Block, Dhalai district,

Tripura.

The project has been taken by the AAI as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme and

the project will benefit 6000 families.

The equipment hiring centers consists of equipment related to agriculture, animal husbandry &

fisheries and the equipment will be rented to the needy farmers, Self Help Groups (SHG) & to other

needy at a minimal cost.

Tripura launched agro entrepreneur facilitation desk to boost economy Tripura state government launched an “Agro-Entrepreneur Facilitation Desk” to help the

entrepreneurs of the state to get subsidies and incentives from Central government funding agencies

and National Horticulture Board or NABARD, the new desk would help them about availing the

facilities.

The state cabinet has approved the setting up of the desk, which will operate from the Directorate of Horticulture and Soil Conservation in the state capital, Agartala.

The desk will be operated by those who hold a masters’ degree in business administration (MBA) or

an undergraduate degree in science. The state government has worked out an estimated budget of

Rs 24 lakh for the exercise, including the salaries of new hires and other related official activities.

The funds for the project will be sourced from the Technical Support Group Funds of the Mission for

Integrated Development of Horticulture.

The state government encourages the processing and marketing of fruits such as pineapple, lemon,

jackfruit, and also vegetables that are grown in abundance in Tripura, in order to increase the

farmer’s income.

The government plans a target of encouraging 2,000 youths in joining agro-based business within a

year and initiatives are being given to facilitate 400 people to start the business in the agriculture

sector.

Tripura Chief Minister (CM) Biplab Kumar Deb also mentioned that the primary sector activities like

agriculture, horticulture, dairy industries would help in reviving the state’s economy which suffered

losses due to lockdown.
