Overview and Benefits

Problem– No Graphical User Interface (GUI) for configuring and re-configuring

devices to NetWorker

This feature solves the problem by:– Providing a GUI for auto configuring libraries within NetWorker– Providing a GUI for re-configuring NetWorker libraries

© 2004 EMC Corporation. All rights reserved. 55

Limitations

Only support auto configuring SCSI, NDMP and STL Silo library types

Does not support auto configuring RSM and AlphaStor library types

- use jbconfig CLI to configure RSM and AlphaStor libraries

Does not support auto configuring library which does not return its devices’ serial number

- use “sn –a b.t.l” CLI to verify that the library does not return its

devices’ serial number

- use jbconfig CLI to configure libraries which do not return

serial numbers

Does not support auto configuring NDMP library on NDMP Tape Server running at NDMP Protocol version 2.

- use jbconfig CLI to configure NDMP libraries on NDMP Tape Server

running at NDMP Protocol version 2.

Auto Configuration Failure and Common Causes

Auto Configuration Failure

After auto configuration is finished:

- No library is auto configured

- Library is shown as unconfigured library

Common Causes

- Device driver is not installed properly

- Auto detection fails to match up detected library and its devices:

- Old device firmware

- Library does not return its devices’ serial numbers

- Auto detection is failed to start on storage nodes

Troubleshooting

Check the Monitoring -> Log

Run the “sn –a b.t.l” CLI to verify that the library returns its devices’ serial number

If b.t.l of a library is not known, run the inquire CLI first

Troubleshooting – Auto Configuration Failure

• Device Paths are missing. Most likely the device driver is not installed properly

Troubleshooting – Auto Configuration Failure

• Library does not return its devices’ serial numbers. Check if the firmware is up-to-dated, or if the library is not able to return its devices’ serial numbers.
