Big Question?
Do different brands of popcorn leave different amount of un -popped kernels?
Using Orville Redenbacher’s popcorn, Pop Secret Popcorn, and Kroger's popcorn [King Sooper’s off brand.]
2
Hypothesis
If we use off-brand microwave popcorn, then the kernels won’t pop as much as the name brand microwave popcorns.
What effects the microwave kernel pop success rate?

B. Step by Step instructions
Today we will be finding out what popcorn brand cooks the most popcorn!
First, buy the three brands of popcorn that are listed above. You will need to place each popcorn brand separately in the microwave and hit the popcorn button. ( if have you one on your microwave). Put all of the kernels on the plate. The popcorn you can eat later. Count up the popcorn kernels from each popcorn brand and put who is the winner! Who has the fewest unpopped kernels.

Observations From experiment
Orville Redenbacher’s popcorn has most amount of popcorn kernels.
Pop Secret popcorn has 2nd to least. And Kroger’s popcorn (King Sooper’s off
brand) has the least. Monica [my mom] likes Kroger’s popcorn
(King Sooper’s off brand) And so does my sister.
8
Data
Orville Redenbacher’s popcorn has 7 kernels.
9
Data
Pop Secret has 42 kernels.
10
Data
Kroger’s popcorn (King Sooper’s off brand) has 47 kernels.

Analysis of Data a. Did the experiment test my
hypothesis? Yes, the experiment tested my
hypothesis to be correct. b. How do you know? I know because the off-brand popcorn
had more kernels unpopped compared to the name
brands.
12
Conclusion
a. Was your hypothesis correct? Yes, my hypothesis is correct. I stated “If we use off-brand
microwave popcorn, then the kernels won’t pop as much as the brand name microwave popcorns”.
b. What would you change in the experiment and why? I would not change a thing because I liked how I planned the
science experiment and the outcome tested my hypothesis to be correct.
c. What are some new questions you have? How will my experiment turn out on power point? How will I do it,
without having power point on my computer? Which brand of microwave popcorn taste better?
