EMSC-ORFEUS to provide the seismological component of the TWS in the Euro-Med

• Who are we? – The 2 complementary Euro-Med organisations in seismology working

under the auspices of the European Seismological Commission (ESC) and international organisations (FDSN, IASPEI...)

• Euro-Med Seismological Centre (EMSC): Operates the Euro-Med Earthquake Alert System in coordination with the national alert systems. Members: 73 institutes in 46 countries

• Organisation of Research Facilities for EUropean Seismology (ORFEUS): Operates the Virtual European Broadband Seismological Network (VEBSN). Cooperative and primarily research initiative to provide rapid (near) real time data for high quality seismic stations for research.

• SAFER (Seismic eArly warning For EuRope): EC research project to exploit the full possibilities of the real time analysis of signals from seismic networks (including VEBSN). 23 participants

• EERWEM (Earthquake and Earthquake Risk in Western Med): INCO project to coordinate seismic networks in Western Med (counterpart project for Eastern-Med in complementary list)

• NERIES (NEtwork of Research Infrastructures for European Seismology): EC infrastructure project aims at building the seismological infrastructure as a key land-based segment of the GMES strategy and of the GEO 10-years implementation plan. 25 participants
