FFA ADVISORS: MATTHEW WHITAKER & TONI MYERS

The theme of the National FFA Organization this year is “BelIeve” (the I is inten-tionally capitalized!) and the Boyle County FFA Chapter is incorporating thistheme into everything we do! Each year the Boyle County chapter designs a t-shirt for the members and this year this quote was featured on the back:

“When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionably.” - Walt Disney

This quote has inspired our chapter to know that we can accomplish anythingif we just believe in ourselves. Through the actions of the Boyle County FFAmembers it’s obvious that “We BelIeve!”

This past June, at the Kentucky FFA State Convention, there were four mem-bers from Boyle County to receive their State Degree and other members com-peted in competitions while attending. We also had one member, Colby Myers;receive the highest degree in FFA that an FFA member can achieve – TheAmerican Degree.

Over the summer we took eighteen members to the Leadership TrainingCenter, also known as “camp” to the members, where we took part in officerclasses, recreation activities, and of course leadership training classes. At FFACamp Kayla Lynn, Emmy Griffin, and Ruth Ann Myers were awarded with StateLeadership Awards.

In addition, a list of goals were agreed on for the upcoming year. A few of ourgoals are:

1.Every member participate in two community service events2.Have all members fill out a SAE Proficiency 3.Start an FFA Alumni Newsletter4.Conduct an 8th grade recruitment day

Our FFA chapter continues to grow and develop the future leaders throughclassroom instruction, SAE projects and FFA activities. We are so fortunate in ourchapter to have the support of our local school board, administrators, commu-nity members and the Alumni chapter. We know that without this support wecould not come close to reaching our goals. A great example of this is this pastsummer eight of our officers attended the Washington Leadership Conferencein Washington D. C. This trip is by far one of the most inspiring and challengingconferences held in FFA but it is also very expensive. We took our idea and planto the Boyle County Farm Bureau and they sponsored each student by paying50% of their fees. Our FFA Alumni chapter also sponsored the trip and the bal-ance was raised by the students through fund raisers and work that they did topay their own way. Thank you!!

National FFA Week is a great opportunity for our chapter to increase agricul-ture literacy by having different events at the school to support FFA and theagriculture industry.

Our entire FFA chapter would like to thank our two advisors, Matt Whitaker andToni Myers for all of their guidance and effort that they put into our program, aswell as our Alumni Chapter, School Board and Community Members for theiryear round support of our chapter. Thank you for BelIeving in us!
