Moral Flaws Left Untreated The danger of greed

John 12:4-6 -- But Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, who was intending to betray Him, said, “Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and given to poor people?” Now he said this, not because he

was concerned about the poor, but because he

was a thief, and as he had the money box, he

used to pilfer what was put into it.

1 Timothy 6:10

For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs….

Striving For A Free Character

Hebrews 13:5a – “Make sure that your character is free from the love of money….”

Judas’ Flaw Was So Obvious!

John 17:12 – “While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me;

and I guarded themand not one of themperished but the son

of perdition, so thatthe Scripture would

be fulfilled.”

A Willing Accomplice

What did Satan do?

Luke 22:3 – “And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, belonging to the number of the twelve.”

Who’s to blame?

John 13:2 – “During supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him….”

What Was The Problem?

Matthew 26:3-5 -- Then the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathered together in the court of the high priest, named Caiaphas; and they plotted together to seize Jesus by stealth and kill Him. But they were saying, “Not during the festival, otherwise a riot might occur among the people.”

What Was The Solution?

Matthew 26:14-15 --Then one of the twelve, named Judas

Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, “What

are you willing to give me to betray Him to you?” And

they weighed out thirty pieces of silver to him.

From then on he began looking for a good opportunity to betray Jesus.

Judas Had Insider Information John 18:2 –

Now Judas also, who was betraying Him, knew the place, for Jesus had often met there with His disciples.”

Opportunity For Repentance Matthew 26:20-21,25 –

“…Jesus was reclining at the table with the twelve disciples…He said, “Truly I say to you that one of you will betray Me.”

v. 25: “And Judas…said, “Surely it is not I, Rabbi?” Jesus said to him, “You have said it yourself.”

It Didn’t Have To Be Judas! Matthew 26:24 – “The Son of Man is to go,

just as it is writtenof Him; but woe tothat man by whomthe Son of Man is betrayed! It would

have been good forthat man if he had

not been born.”

Last Chance For Repentance

Luke 22:47-48 --  While He was still speaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one called Judas, one of the twelve, was preceding them; and he approached Jesus to kiss Him. But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”

Death From Remorse Matthew 27:3 –

“Then when Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that He had been condemned, he felt remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders….”

Suicide By Hanging

Matthew 27:5 – “And he threw the pieces of silver into the temple sanctuary and departed; and he went away and hanged himself.”

Disembowled

Acts 1:18 --  (Now this man acquired a field with the price of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out.”

Lessons For Today

2 Corinthians 7:10 – “For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.”

The Value Of Contentment

1 Timothy 6:6-8 – “But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment. For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content.”

Hebrews 13:5

“Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what

you have; for He Himself has said, ‘I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake

you…”
