There are only so many ways you can “push” for clean energy access. These are: Enterprise, Policy, Technology (E-P-T)

The impact of energy initiatives – public & private – is largely defined by how well these three variables are managed.

If there is too much emphasis on technology and too little attention to the policy environment and entrepreneur delivery, the impact is difficult to capture.

Likewise, if we trust that policy alone can solve the problem, we run a similar risk.

And focusing on the enterprise issue alone without considering policy and technology creates a delivery system that is difficult to scale and vulnerable to the vagaries of policies and politics.

Here, the sides are able to connect, but the impact is reduced because the technology is not fully supported by enabling policy and effective delivery systems. (See MFP)

Lastly, faith in SGBs to extend and scale clean energy access is misplaced unless careful attention is paid to deploying appropriate technology in a sound policy setting. (See Soluz DR)

The objective is to achieve balance between the three strategies in order to maximize the “area,” knowing that each “push” supports and informs the others.

The focus of this toolkit is on the “E” side, recognizing that this is the most oft neglected of the three pieces.

It is around this crucial interface that we will organize other important relationships and factors for success.

Also, a robust enterprise-customer interaction forms the crux of the delivery model. It doesn't matter whether the enterprise is an MNC, a contractor, a mom & pop store, a co-op, an NGO, etc.
