dogwood drama CluB Christmas PerFormaNCe Solstice QueenThe Drama Club’s Christmas presentation is an original play, with music, written and directed by Richard Dixon.
The Queen of a fictional kingdom, having reigned for 55 years, wants to retire and take it easy. However there is no heir apparent to succeed to her throne, so she has to select a successor from among her subjects. Several people, including the Prime Minster and the Chief Justice (both of whom are women), fancy themselves sitting on the royal throne. Another candidate tries to rekindle an old flame with the Queen with the idea of sharing the monarchy. The Queen has ideas of her own as to who might be a suitable substitute for herself.
The play takes place in the Queen’s throne room on the evening of the Winter Solstice, just before Christmas, an appropriate time for new beginnings.
Sunday, November 30 at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 2 at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 4 at 1:30 p.m.
Tickets ($5) are available in November at the front desk or from the Drama Club members.
