A GREAT ARTIST VIKTOR VASNETSOV

Viktor Vasnetsov, Russian painter and architect, master of historical and folk art.

Viktor Vasnetsov was born in May 15, 1848 in the family of an Orthodox priest

Mikhail Vasnetsov (1823-1870). Vasnetsov studied art in St. Petersburg.

After graduation of the Academy, he traveled abroad. He began exhibited his

work in 1869.

SERPENT HYDRA

"Bogatyri" –is a picture of Victor Vasnetsov. The common name of the picture - "Three bogatyrs”. Vasnetsov worked on the painting for nearly twenty years. April 23, 1898 it

was finished and soon bought by Tretyakov for his gallery.

"BOGATYRI

The painting depicts Three bogatyrs -Dobrynya

Nikitich, Ilya Muromets and Alyosha Popovich (Russian

bylinas main characters). In the middle on a black horse, Ilya Muromets, looks away

from the palm. In one hand bogatyr holds a

spear, and the other holds the mace. To the left side on

a white horse Dobrynya Nikitich, takes the sword from its scabbard. To the right side on the horse

Alyosha Popovich, holding a bow and arrows. In

comparison with his friends he is young and slender.

Nowadays the picture "Bogatyrs" kept in the Tretyakov Gallery
