About CORSYM 2013
The International Corrosion Prevention Symposium for Research Scholars organized by NIGIS South Zone Student Section, supported by NACE International Gateway India Section, Mumbai and NACE International East Asia Pacific Rim Area, was held during 28th Feb‐02nd March, 2013 at Hotel GRT Grand, Chennai. The symposium was blessed with the presence of the following eminent personalities; Dr. K. Rosaiah, His excellency the governor of Tamilnadu state Mr. Tushar Jhaveri, Vice President, NACE International Prof. Philippe Marcus, Director of Research at CNRS, Director of Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Surfaces, Paristech, France Dr. T. S. Sudarshan, President and CEO, Materials Modifications Inc., USA Dr. Baldev Raj, President, INAE and IIW, President ‐ Research, PSG Institutions Prof. P.T. Manoharan, Ramanna Fellow, IIT‐Madras Dr. Vijaymohanan K. Pillai, Director, CSIR‐CECRI, Karaikudi Dr. P. R. Vasudeva Rao, Director, IGCAR, Kalpakkam Dr. Samir Degan, Director EAP Area, NACE International Ms. Michelle Lau, EAP Area Chair The symposium started with the registration of delegates. After registration, Sri Pradeep Kumar Samantaroy, Convener, CORSYM 2013, has addressed the gathering about the symposium. Then the poster session was inaugurated by Sri Tushar Jhaveri, Vice President, NACE International, USA. In the inaugural function, Dr. U. Kamachi Mudali, Chairperson, CORSYM 2013 welcomed the delegates and organizers and introduced the personalities on the dais to the audience. The presidential address was delivered by Sri Tushar Jhaveri, followed by the address of Prof. Philippe Marcus, the guest of honour of symposium. Dr. K. Rosaiah, His Excellency the governor of Tamilnadu state delivered the inaugural address and then released the souvenir. Dr. K. Rosaiah appreciated the initiative taken by NIGIS South Zone student section in familiarizing students and young research scholars with the basic and practical aspects of corrosion, its effects and protection issues. The inauguration function ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Samir Degan, Director, EAP Area. The highlight of the symposium was the 1st NIGIS National Science Day lecture delivered Dr. Baldev Raj. Two plenary lectures were delivered by Prof. Philippe Marcus on the first day and
Dr. T. S. Sudarshan on the third day of the symposium. Three keynote lectures were delivered by Dr. Rolf Gubner, Dr. U. Kamachi Mudali and Dr. Minxu Lu. This symposium has attracted participants from various parts of world such as Australia, China, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia etc. On this occasion, there were 7 technical sessions containing about 50 oral presentations and 47 poster presentations majorly from educational and research institutions, few from the industry, and R&D community from India and abroad. Participants presenting their work in oral were given time duration of 12 minutes each. Each presentation was followed with discussion with audience. There was one poster interactive session arranged to encourage the poster presenters. The technical sessions were chaired by Prof. P.T. Manoharan, Prof. S.K. Seshadri, Sri. N. Sriram, Dr. N. Rajendran, Dr. Rolf Gubner, Dr. T.M. Sridhar, Dr. Minxu Lu, Dr. Mokhtar Che Isamil and Dr. T. Subba Rao. During the symposium, a cultural program was performed by Suraji’s Poiizen Studio on the first day and a visit to Mamallapuram was arranged on the second day. During the dinner at Mamallapuram, Dr. P.R. Vasudeva Rao addressed the gathering and impressed about the importance of pursuing science as profession. In the valedictory function, Dr. U. Kamachi Mudali welcomed the gathering. The valedictory function was graced by the presence of Dr. Vijaymohanan K. Pillai, Director, Central Electrochemical Research Institute, Karaikudi. Dr. Pillai delivered a speech about the role of nano technology in corrosion science. Mr. Arunchandran Chenan, Secretary, CORSYM 2013 briefed about the entire proceedings of the symposium. Dr. S. Rangarajan gave a technical overview of the symposium and announced the five best oral and five poster presenters' names for which prizes were distributed by the chief guest. Finally the vote of thanks was given by Dr. N. Rajendran, Co‐Chairperson of CORSYM 2013.
