Kicking the Cold Weather
Bingo Winners
This winter has been one for the record books. Residents haven’t seen a winter like this in more than 30 years, according to them. It has been unanimously voted the residents are tired of the cold and snow.
To try to break the ice and kick the cold, Whitney and Liz invited the residents to a Luau and a Hula in the Coola party. They enjoyed warmer temperatures, tropical fruit, Kalua pork, seaweed, and malasadas (fried bread rolled in sugar). Staff participated in a limbo contest and coconut races. They enjoyed the food and music as well. Liz and Whitney attempted to do a dance. Residents quickly asked us to stop and sit down.
COUNTRY CROSS RETURNS TO ENTERTAIN HULA , CRAFTS & CHOCOLATE — SO GOOD
The month started out with a warm beach party. OK, it wasn’t really a beach party, but we tried to make it feel warmer that it was.
Residents are getting tired of the cold and snow and wanted something to get their minds off the crazy winter we are having. Of course, a Hula in the Coola party was the best medicine. Residents enjoyed some tropical fruit, kalua pork and malasadas. They even had a palm tree made out of pineapples and palms.
Residents watched a movie about the 1925 serum run to Nome, AK, also known as the Great Race of Mercy. The movie “Balto” is based on the true story of the dog sled race.
Kate Zimmerman, Ringgold County Conservation Director, was in to teach. The nature program this month was about toads. Did you know that toads don’t cause warts?
Valentine’s Day is always a fun time for the ladies and girls at the nursing home. Flowers were delivered all day long. While some were getting flowers, the rest of us enjoyed some chocolate at the annual Chocolate Affair. They enjoyed chocolate truffles, chocolate bread pudding, strawberry chocolate puppy chow, chocolate and strawberry cookies and strawberry punch.
Country Cross was here to sing one morning. Community Singers were here to entertain as well during the month of February.
Other games played during the month were Valentine’s Jingo, President’s Jingo, Boxball, Go Fish, UNO, Match Card, and Valentine Roll and Cover Game.
The United Baptist -Presbyterian Church and the First Christian Church brought communion to the residents.
Abbey Schafer was also in to share her experience traveling to Trinidad and Tobago. Lots of information and several questions were asked. (Pictured below.)
Activities coming up in March that we would like the community to help participate include Barbie’s birthday and a quilt show. Barbie doll will celebrate her 60th birthday on March 9. On Friday, March 8, the residents would like to see a variety of doll displays over
the years. Also, on March 28, everyone is invited to show off their quilts for the residents. For more information on either, give Liz a call at 641-464-2240.
Pictured above are Ally Shelly and Chloe Saville with their donation to the facility from the Mount Ayr FFA Chapter. Pictured below is Abbey Schafer sharing about her trip.
We Appreciate All Our Volunteers & Special GuestsCommunity Singers: Carol Rogers, June Irvin, Bea Lamb, Joyce Ridge, Garland Fickes, Ann Robinson, Mary Weaver, Verla Monk, Wilma Hughes and Donna Smithson.

Others: Kate Zimmerman, Elsie Schafer, Kenleigh Fooken, Dennis & Randi Bowen (Country Cross).
Dennis Bowen and wife, Randi, Country Cross, were in to entertain in February. They sang several familiar songs together. Many of them, the residents knew and sang along. While Dennis sang, Randi went around to dance with the residents. More pictures are on the Clearview Home-Mount Ayr Facebook page.
NATURE PROGRAM — TOADS
Oscar the ToadKate Zimmerman, Ringgold County Conservation Director, was in for her monthly nature program. Kate brought in Oscar the toad to show everyone after she taught several things about the toad’s habitat and environment. We learned that toads do NOT cause warts and females are bigger than males. Several were out to touch Oscar.
