ADMINISTRATOR’S MESSAGE
Now that some spring weather has finally arrived, it is the time of year during which we start making our plans for next year. We have traditionally had transition meetings for our grade 9 students and parents during which we introduce the credit system. However, based on the responses over the last couple of years, we will be providing this information in a different format. We will meet with the grade 9 classes and then follow up by providing that information to the parents electronically. We hope to be able to distribute this information next week so that any parents interested in asking follow up questions will be able to do so at the interviews scheduled the following week. We will be doing something similar for the grade 6 students entering our middle years program. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Spring is also the time of year when construction gets into full swing, and when families begin thinking about their plans for a move to a new home. If you are aware of new families and students moving into your area, please encourage them to contact the school to set up a tour of the school and to discuss our exceptional programming. We are proud to discuss the advantages of attending Clavet School and are eager to put plans in place to prepare for the new students that we invariably receive each academic year. Early registration is particularly important for our high school students since we make timetabling decisions based on student course requests.
The provincial Ministry of Education has released a document, Saskatchewan Reads, to guide English Language Arts instruction in grades 1-3. In the document, they have included the quote, “Make excellent classroom libraries one of your highest priorities. … It is only through wide, self-selected reading that we will produce proficient and joyful readers as well as writers.” (Routman, 2014, p. 99). To this end, we are initiating a book drive to help develop all of our elementary classroom libraries. As you complete your spring cleaning, please consider donating any gently used books that your children may have outgrown to help develop our classroom libraries. Please see the list of suggestions near the end of this newsletter. Books can be sent to homeroom teachers.
We are looking forward to seeing you at interviews. Enjoy the spring melt.

FLAG FOOTBALL The sun is shining and the snow is melting. That means the spring flag football season is just
around the corner. Clavet has now been a member of Saskatoon Minor Football for a couple
of years and each season the enrollment/success steadily grows. The spring season begins on
May 2nd and ends with a weekend jamboree on June 27-28. Games are always played on
Saturdays at the newly renovated Saskatoon Minor Football Field, formerly known as Gordie
Howe Bowl. Registration is $75, can only be completed through the league website
(saskatoonminorfootball.com) and has been open since January 5th. The
league accommodates grades 1-8. If you have any questions in regards
to the league, game, registration process etc. please don't hesitate to
contact the league via email, or Chad Hunt (306)242-8162.
Pre-K/Kindergarten- The league is running a Tykes on Spikes program
this season for kids 4-5 years of age. It’s an introductory program for these youngsters to
learn the basic concepts and movements involved with the game of football. I have been
coaching flag football in Clavet since the beginning and have a son that falls under this age
group. If there is enough interest I would be willing to coordinate a similar program at
Clavet School on the night or day which works best for its participants. If interested please
email me at bloo_15@hotmail.com or call me at (306)242-8162.
