The YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc. is recruitingvolunteers to participate in the 23rd annual Freihofer’sCommunity Walk on Saturday, June 4, at 12:30 p.m.The event, which begins and ends outside the New York StateMuseum, provides an opportunity for regional non-profitorganizations to raise funds through walk pledges.The YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc. depends on theCommunity Walk as a major fundraiser. Last year, 10 YWCAwalkers raised over $500.Funds raised at this year’s event will help supplement ourweekly community meal, serving between 60 and 90 individualsand families and food pantry serving approximately 100families per month.Walkers must check in at the Community Walk registrationarea on the Concourse Level of the Empire State Plaza startingat 10 a.m. T-shirts will be given to the first 1,000 walkers andparticipants will receive a box of Freihofer’s chocolate chipcookies. COMMUNITY ORCHESTRA SPRING
CONCERT
Lots of enjoyment is in store for all who attend the Averill ParkCommunity Orchestra concert on Sunday, June 12. The musicalevent will take place at the Algonquin Middle School at 4:00 PMthat afternoon. Members in the orchestra are students andadults from the local and surrounding areas. There will bemusic to delight everyone, including classical selections byHandel, Brahms, Berlioz, and Rimsky-Korsakoff. Additionally,the orchestra will perform Leroy Anderson’s Syncopated Clockand medleys from The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz.Other contemporary pieces will have you tapping your toes toa march, singing along to rain songs, being transported into astorm and also to the Old West. As usual there is no admissionfee, however, the group is very grateful for any donationstowards the purchase of new music and other expenses. DFD “WORLD’S BEST” CHICKEN BBQThe DeFreestville Fire Department will hold its annual “World’sBest” Chicken Barbecue on Saturday, June 4th, from 4:30 to6:00 p.m. at the fire station, 480 North Greenbush Road.
