SOP for ASF
Standard Operation Procedure on ASF (August 2018)- Depopulation- Disinfection - Movement restriction- Outbreak investigation - Disposal- Command System
SOP for ASF
The main possible pathways of ASF introduction into Korea
- illegal imports of food products for private consumption
or small-scale trade
- swilling feeding from contaminated food waste
- cross-border movement of wild boars
Quarantine(1)
APQA has increased intervention at the border, targeting high risk products at the international airports, seaports and mailing process centers (Cooperation with Korea Custom Service)
Increased border activities
Quarantine(2) Since 2015, APQA has conducted testing on pork products confiscated at airports and seaports from travelers coming from countries affected by ASF
• A total 4,064 pork products were seized from travelers from China on August 2018, 52 products randomly selected and tested for ASFV, 2 pork products were contaminated with ASF virus fragment.
First ASF gene detected on 24 August 2018
Russia, Vietnam, Thailand, Mongol, Myanmar, China (8 positive)
Russia, Italy, Poland,Czech, China (4 positive, No virus isolation)

P54 gene (Gen bank MH717102) 100% identical to SY-18
Compare with SY-18 (China strain)
I73R-I329L gene (Gen bank MH717104)
100% identical to SY-18

Genotype II
Sequence of PCR(2 pork products, August 2018) got 100% match to the strains in China
Biosecurity Farms Conduct on site inspection for pig farms
- Intensive monitoring for swill feeding farms* Number of swill feeding pig farms : 384 farms(May 2018) → 267(Jan 2019) ** Surveillance for all pigs in swill feeding farm(322 farms 2,478 pigs) Provide advice, recommendations Order and penalty to farmers who do not follow
the biosecurity standards
Feed manufacture from recycled food waste
* It must be registered and compliance with regulation(80°C, 30mins)** Ban on swill feeding of food waste from international aircraft and ships
Conduct on site inspection (Cooperation with Ministry of Environment)
Domestic pig population
Farms 6,188
Surveillance(1)
Passive surveillance
No reports on dead wild boars
