• This is the only userid you will use for official business while you are at UW!

WATIAM

• Logon to WATIAM– http://watiam.uwaterloo.ca– verify your personal

information

• Answer your security questions to activate your account

To Setup Your Account

• Use your WATIAM userid and password

• If you are having issues, please visit BMH 1037

Your Password

• You will have 1 password for all resources at UW

• Use a complicated password

• Guard your password• Change your

password often

Your Responsibility!

• You have an email account at UW!– userid@uwaterloo.ca

• It is your responsibility to ‘activate’ and to regularly ‘check’ your account!!!

• This can be done by either by using http://mywaterloo.ca or by forwarding your email to another account

• Your email server is mailservices

Email

• Your email account is,– username@mailservices.uwaterloo.ca

• The most common way to check your email is to use mywaterloo.ca

• You can setup an email client like Outlook to read your email

Checking WATIAM

• To forward your email to another account fill in the Email Forward field in WATIAM

• You can also setup a Friendly Email address

• mywaterloo.ca is a multi-faceted web portal

• One of it’s main purposes is read and respond to email

• Works essentially like hotmail or gmail– More secure– More professional

About Nexus

• Nexus is a domain, it is not software!– A group of computers and devices on a

network that are administered as a unit with common rules and procedures.

• You can logon to your account from any of the computing labs on campus

• Other course specific software on selected workstations

The N:\ Drive

• Your 10GB file space is located on the N:\ drive– Make sure to save your files to either the N:\ drive or

to a USB Key

• Use your N:\ drive to store your files• It is a safe, secure and reliable network resource

– It is backed up every 4 hours– There is an archive of nightly backups for the

previous 5 days and 2 weekly backups from the previous Sunday night

VPN

• To connect to your N: drive from off campus you will need to connect to the VPN
