HAN INCIDENTwhich the Opinion of QL

2 Popular Composer receives literal illustration

if by a Prominent PianistAlter he had heard the Pianola Moszkowski said i

Any one hidden in a room near by who will hear the Pianola forthe first time will surely think it is a great virtuoso that plays

The literal truth of this statement was demonstrated recently in an interestingand very forcible manner

Pugno the celebrated French pianist and the head of the piano department in theParis Conservatory was visiting a gentleman in whose house there was a PianolaThe instrument was in the room next to the one in which M Pugno was being entertained Entirely unaware of the presence of the great pianist the son of the hostbegan playing the Pianola The piece he had selected was a very difficult compositionof Chopins and Pugno after the opening chords ceased talking and began listeningto the music with every evidence of interest and pleasure He could not see theperformer and did not know there was a Pianola in the house but he could hear andwas attracted by the music

When the playing had ceased he immediately turned to his host and said Whowas that playing He is really a remarkable performer

To appreciate the full significance of this wonderful tribute to the Pianola we mustremember that Pugno is not only a player of international reputation he is a teacherof the piano and at the head of this department of instruction in the largest conservatory in the world He is accustomed and his ear is trained to listen for every slightestdefect in touch technique and expression It is his business to do this And yet henot only did not know that he was listening to the performance of an automatic instrument but on the contrary he said that the player was a wonderfully fine performer

The young man who played for Pugno was not a musician and he only did whatany one can do with a Pianola after a few simple lessons

We are demonstrating the possibilities of this remarkableInitrnwent alt who call at our exhibition rooms We are 1

always glad to show the Instrument to any one sufficiently Inte-

rested to visit UK You need not fee1 the usual hesitancy about ftgoing to oe n thlnic you do not expert to purchase as we barerootna especially set apart for displaying the Pianola and eraploy a large stuff of men whose sole duty It Is to play the Instru v-

ment and explain It to visitors

The rrnrkeJ popularity of the Pianola In the SummerHoma leads to the belief that an examination of thisInstrument before they leave town Is to the Interest ofevery one
