What is “new” FamilySearch?

• It is an internet-based system for temple and family history work, in its beginning stages• It is the new way to prepare and manage names for ordinance work in the temple • It replaces TempleReady

• It is a new way to start doing family history• It is a system where you and your family members can work together on the same information

It is not a replacement for Personal Ancestral File or any other records manager

It is not ready to contain your pictures, histories, documents and other extensive documentation

It is not finished

What “new” FamilySearch is NOT?

Current Status• Rollout started June 2007 in St.

Louis• Since then:- 9 updates to nFS program

• Rollout almost complete:- Temple districts

remaining- 5 Asian using non-roman characters• 500,000 + registered users

- may double by the end of the year

BUT … the system is not feature-complete

• Database approaching one billion individuals

• One of the consequences of bringing together so many databases has been the frequency of duplicate submissions of records, both for

genealogical purposes and temple work. • However, by bringing the databases together the process of reducing duplication is finally made possible.• With sophisticated information technology, over one-third of the information in the databases was able to be combined together in new FamilySearch,

without the need for human intervention.
