Regional Research Center
CEAP is one of the 13 regional research centers created by CONICYT in association with Regional Governments.
All of them are focused on scientific and technological challenges related to a relevant regional production sector.
Main objectives: Enhance the decentralization of science and
technology development. Seduce new researchers to move into regions
(away from the metropolitan region). Generation of new knowledge on particular
field of regional interest
CEAP´s Strategic Objectives
• Generate new Agroindustry products at final consumer level.
• Optimize the Agroindustry processes in the main horticultural sectors of the Maule Region.
• Increase the environmental sustainability of the region´s Agroindustries.
• Create a national and international network that help the Centre become a national and international referent in R&D+i in horticultural processed food.
• Provide the Centre and the region with highly-specialized researchers, through the attraction and/or training of new researchers in horticultural processed food.
• Generate technology business, with high impact in the Maule Region, through development of technologies, products, processes and services, with application in the food industry.

New product development research
• Characterization, health benefits, functional properties of different “native” species:
• Chenopodium quinoa Willd
• Rubus geoides Sm
• Ugni molinae turcz
• Tristerix tetrandus
• Prosopis chilensis Mol
• Red wine
• Olive oil
• Aristotelia chilensis
• …
• Processing technology to preserve health value of fruits and vegetable as well as bioavailability (vacuum frying, encapsulation, freeze-drying, infrared-radiation drying, etc.)
• Food development for special interest group (elderly, etc.)
Processing optimization reserach
• Optimization of harvest scheduling of wine grapes.
• Prediction models for fruit disease incidence in postharvest.
• Wide range of technology used in processing plants
