The most worshiped God

of all gods...

and goddesses...

is...

The Mighty Zeus!!!!!!!!!!!

Aphrodite was the goddess love

Ares was

The god....

of war

Poseidon was

the god

of water

Apollo was

the god

of sun

Hades was

the god

but those are only a few gods and godesses...

in fact there are hundreds...

so a story involving some of them tells how Zeus grew up...

Cronus married Rhea

and had children,

but every time

Rhea had a child

Cronus ate it because

he feared they'd

take his throne

so when Zeus

was born Rhea

wrapped him up

sent him away,

then wrapped a rock up

tricking Cronus.

Cronus ate the rock

thinking it was Zeus.

She sent Zeus to Crete

and was secretly raised

by nymphs then

he took over the throne.

so now that

we know the names of some gods..

and a story about a few of them..

we should find out what there names mean/ what they are gods of..

Zeus- Related to Greek word "dios" meaning bright for his storms

But he is actually king of the gods and godesses

Aphrodite- from the Greek word "Aphros" or sea foam, where she emerged

she is the godess love and beauty

Athena- her roman name minerra

godess of wisdom

Poseidon- meant husband of the earth

but he was the god of the sea

Hades- means god of the dead

so he was the god of the dead...obviously

Cronus- the horned one

god of time

Gaia- mother of earth

she was the godess of the whole earth...like a mother nature!

Demeter- mythical earth goddess

godess of bountiful harvest

Artemis- god of hunt

Persephone- queen of underworld

hades wife, hense, godess of underworld...

Hera-lady of mistress

easy enough to tell that she was the godess of marriage...

Ares- god of war

Apollo god of the sun...

so now that we know a lot of gods, why DOES Greece have gods?

Ancient Greece has

many gods to explain

the world around them.

So now a hero that we still hear about is....

HERCULES

who was famous for his strength and bravery

The son of Zeus started a sporting festival

in honor of his father in 776 B.C.

Now these are known as the ancient Greek Olympic Game.

The Olympic Games was the greatest national festival in Ancient Greece

One of the major events of Ancient Greece was the reign of Alexander the Great. From 333 to 323 BC, he greatly expanded the territory of Greece from mainland Greece all the way to present day Afghanistan through conquest and assimilation. He died at age 32.
