CONSERVATION20% potential reduction of energy demand by 2030
In December 2013 we published “Energy Scenarios for Argentina (2013 -2030) with policies for efficiency”. – “Escenarios En
Argentina (2013-2030) con políticas de eficiencia” which establishes, amongst other things, that if Argentina were to impleme
energy efficiency the production of energy could be reduced by 6000 MW with a saving of capital costs of U$S 31 thousand m
This savings can be reached by implementing certain policies in transportation, electricity, gas, habitat and industry sectors.
As a result of this publication the government of the City of Buenos Aires proposed that we sign an agreement to work togeth
for promoting Rational and Efficient Use of Energy along three lines: areview of norms to analyse the current legal framework and proposeopportunities for improvement; aommunications Campaign to enable the City´s Participation and Management Centres to reach it
neighbours with specific material; andEducationalactivities to reach all teachers in the city through a Curricular appendix and the promotion
this subject in Teacher Training Centres.

For the protection of the Three Nations´ Biodiversity Corridor
FVSA has joined the “Programme for the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (BES)”, an initiative of WWF Brazil in coo
Interamerican Development Bank (IADB), in an effort to support a management of conservation programmes in the area of th
frontiers - Brazil Paraguay Argentina – to protect the Atlantic forest landscape through the Tri-national biodiversity corridor th
three countries. FVSA will be working on the interarticulation of the two Iguazu National Parks. They will be sharing thei

70% reduction of deforestation in the Argentine Atlantic Forest
The Atlantic Forest of Argentina represents an important remnant of the Atlantic Forest complex of South America because it
50 % of its original forest cover, mostly concentrated in large forest blocks, which are still home for an amazingly rich biod

deforested in the Argentine Atlantic Forest between 1989 and 2004 was 18.780 hectares, a deforestation rate of -1.13 % / year
the South American (-0.44 % /year) and the global estimations (-0.23 % / year) during similar periods.
As a response to the alarming loss of native forests, a small group of leading environmental organizations integrated by Fundaci

result of this endeavor was the debate and passing of the “Law on Minimum Standards for Native Forests Protection” or Law
2007.
With the enactment of the National Law for Native Forest Protection, it began in Misiones Province the development of a land
remaining Atlantic Forests. This process finalized in a provincial regulation – the Native Forest Land Use Zoning Law – which
clear-cut or restricts the use of forests in an area of 1.190.660 hectares (73 % of the remaining forests). Fundación Vida Silv
provided technical advice for the zoning process and encouraged the involvement of all sectors of society as active participants
The mean annual deforested area within the Atlantic Forest biome has since the law`s enactment sharply descended from the p

Jaguar
Jaguars population increase in Misiones
This year an increase in the size of the population and on the density of animals was detected after an intense programme of m
population of jaguars in the Atlantic Forest of northeast Argentina. The base line of the project was based at between 33 and 5
for 2010/2011. By the beginning of 2014 an increase of between 60 and 100 animals was detected for the natural habitat. It i
prove the direct connection between the increase in numbers of jaguars and actions carried out by FVSA/WWF and other organ
last few years. But there have been a series of favourable conditions (partly as a result of our efforts) that helped to the recup
population: a) a possible reduction of jaguar deaths, b) an evident increase in one of the jaguar´s main prey species –the white
c) an improvement in the forestry norm which tends towards preserving the cover of native forests, and d) ongoing improvemenand urban) to take their commitment to jaguar conservation seriously.

To carry out the research 33 commercial banks in the country were invited to take part. This selection included the 20 m
institutions that handle loans, and other entities chosen for their pre-existing relationship with the institutions carrying out th
participation in answering was 73%. Among the most relevant results were: 50% declared that they had begun to adopt
