III. METHOD SUMMARY
Metals
This is a procedure used to determine metals concentra-tions in aqueous matrices. It , involves an acidicdigestion under oxidizing conditions of approximately 25milliliters of sample. Nitric and hydrochloric acids aswell as hydrogen peroxide are employed in the digestion. The digested sample is filtered and diluted to 25milliliters. The analysis is performed by ICP andfurnace atomic absorption. Reference methods are 1988CLP Statement of Work for Inorganics and EPA Methods forthe Chemical Analysis of Water and Wastes, Revised, March1983.
Cyanide
An aliquot of sample is acidified under analysis condi-tions liberating cyanide as HCN. A distillation followsleaving behind interferences and scrubbing the distilledHCN in sodium hydroxide solution. An aliquot of the NaOHsolution is analyzed colorimetrically for cyanide ion.Reference method is EPA Methods for the Chemical Analysisof Water and Wastes, Revised, March 1983, Method 335.2.
