A ONE MAN EXHIBITION OF NEW WORKS
September 18 through October 3, 2014
“I’m calling the show “Solstice”, which marks change of seasons, a key factor in each painting. Trees and foliage, and the mood brought by impending changes are central to all the works, even more than the people, which tend to be smallerin scale than in many of my previous paintings. The title also alludes to a nature-oriented, Pre-Christian world view, which is shown as mysterious rites or rituals, and clothing that seems out of context. There are still many elements of contempo-rary landscapes like power lines, roads, billboards, etc., but the people are removed or oblivious to those things. In several of the paintings people are passing through, like migrating animals, as if something om-inous is impending. Several of the other paintings show figures from behind (a la Caspar David Friedrich) looking across a gulf that separates one space from another, or in a more metaphysical sense, one universe from another. “
