URGENT CALL FOR SUPPORT
Urge the Senate to Support the Amateur Radio Parity Act
The Amateur Radio Parity Act, H.R. 1301 passed without objection in the US House
of Representatives, but we still have more work to do.
A final urgent call through ARRL Bulletin 44 (ARRLB044) has been made, urging all to
press for Senate passage of the version of H.R. 1301 that was adopted by the House in
September. According to the December 1 bulletin, “President Roderick urged members
to "reach out one more time to your Senators today! Right away Right now!" . If it fails in
the Senate, the entire process will need to start over with the new Congress.
You can show your support by sending an electronic letter to YOUR Senator by visiting the ARRL "Rally Con-
gress" web page. It is simple, and it only takes few minutes.
Please click the following link to access the web page to letter to your Senator: https://arrl.rallycongress.net/

Nashville Amateur Radio Club from Paul Stinson KJ4WQN ,
Secretary, Nashville Amateur Radio Club
On December 15, the Nashville Amateur Radio Club will hold
its annual Christmas dinner at Ryan’s at Rivergate for mem-
bers and their families. One highlight of this event is the do-
nation of toys to the Salvation Army. Every member attending
the dinner is asked to bring at least one unwrapped toy for
boy or girl. The Salvation Army distributes these toys along
as part of its Forgotten Angels program. Each year, this pro-
gram provides toys for approximately 1,200 to 1,500 children
in the area who would not otherwise receive a gift at Christ-
mas.

Amateur Radio Operators who
join ARRL or renew their mem-
bership at a Hamfest are eligible
to choose one of six publications
as a gift when they complete the
application and pay their dues at
the Hamfest.

IN THE MEMPHIS AREA... RADIO MERIT BADGE TRAINING FOR TROOP 84 AND 87
By Joe Lowenthal WA4OVO Director of Training, Delta Amateur Radio Club, Memphis TN
Nine Boy Scouts from Troops 84 and 87 earned their Radio Merit Badge on Saturday November 12th at
Germantown United Methodist Church. Bill Johnsen KM4VXW coordinated the class. Thanks to Hugh
Wardlaw WB4SLI and Joe Lowenthal WA4OVO for the instruction. Perry Hayes N4PSH, Steve Frazier
KK4VPT and Jelly Thompson N4HLT helped with the required 10 minutes of QSOs made by each Scout.
ST. JUDE MEMPHIS MARATHON from Joe Lowenthal WA4OVO For the fifteenth time on Saturday December 3rd, 63 hams from the Memphis area provided communica-
tions for the St. Jude Memphis Marathon. A 1-mile kids race started at 7am with the close of the marathon
about 3pm. There were five different races in one day: the 1-mile kids race, a 5k, a 10k, a half marathon,
and the full marathon. The races went through the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital complex located
in the downtown Memphis area. Prior to ALSAC/St. Jude sponsoring the event, hams helped First Tennes-
see Bank with the communications for the First Tennessee Memphis Marathon. First Tennessee Bank
started sponsoring the marathon in 1988 until 2000. There was no marathon in 2001. Hams were at all hy-
dration stations, as well as in the lead vehicles, with the race directors, net control with Memphis PD, medi-
cal area, and transportation. Roger Schlichter WR4R coordinated the ham radio operators.

Cleveland Amateur Radio Club - NPOTA Activation TR12
from Chris Hunter (KK4YEM), Recording Secretary
The Cleveland Amateur Radio Club conducted their final public demo on Saturday, November 12 as part of the ARRL's
"National Parks on the Air" program celebrating the 100th anniversary of the National Parks system. During these events,
amateur radio operators or "HAMs" as they are more commonly known attempt to contact as many units in the national
parks system as possible from their home locations. The goal for HAMs at the parks is to contact as many US states and
territories as possible.
The activity was held at the Blythe Ferry Removal Memorial Park in Birchwood, TN; a federally recognized site on the
Trail of Tears National Historic Trail. This marks the club's third activation as the Trail of Tears as part of the year-long
event. The Club's October demo at Red Clay State Historic Park in Cleveland, TN saw ten member participants interact-
ing with park visitors, and six radio operators communicating by voice and Morse code to amateurs throughout the coun-
try.
Club secretary Chris Hunter noted "we chose the date to commemorate the 178th anniversary of the last prisoner detail
to depart the Ferry in 1838." "The Memorial park is one of those hidden spots that you wouldn't ordinarily see. Besides
the historical aspects, there's a ton of wildlife from the nearby preserve. Our first setup in April was supervised by a pair
of foxes!"

NPOTA Activators and Chasers!!!
Less than a month to go to activate at a National Park to help the US
National Parks celebrate their 100th Anniversary. If you can’t be there, you can still “chase” them on
the air! It’s lots of fun, and gives you a bit more practice in setting up and making contacts in the
field,. A GREAT way to enhance your Amateur Radio skills!
Send us highlights from your activations for a special NPOTA edition, which will feature pictures and
stories of activations throughout the ARRL TN Section. Email kk4iwn@arrl.net with details from
your activations, your milestone number of contacts, or just great stories about contacts you made
on or off the field!

Special Event Station in Germantown—Hosted by the Nashoba Amateur Radio Club
On Saturday, November 19, the Nashoba Amateur Radio Club operated a special events station commemorating the
175th anniversary of the City of Germantown. Operating out of the historic Germantown Depot, the group contacted 131
stations in 23 states and 2 Canadian Provinces. The operators talked about the Germantown Charter being issued in
1841 and the history of the Germantown Depot.
Austen Onek, KG4GKE, from WREG came by the station, took some video and tried a turn at the microphone. He put togeth-
er a video that was linked from wreg.com/weather. Here is a link to that video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=YQ3oXI_XWms
A part of the video that is on YouTube was aired on a TV news broadcast. The Club also sent a press release to a num-
ber of local media outlets and were fortunate to get the coverage at Channel 3 (helps to have a ham there!). The event
release made it into the local newspaper. See a pdf of the article with this link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1oh0-

The operators from the Club had a GREAT Time, as you can see from the pictures provided by Fred Miller, KS2X :
Every great Special Event Needs a Special QSL Card!
Be sure to request an “N4G” Card if you worked their station!
