Hi from Lucy
For many of you, I am a familiar face at the Station but I have re-
cently noticed that there are a few new volunteers.
My name is Lucy Stewart and I like to introduce myself as one of
the Executive members of the station and convenor of the Maltese
Language Programming group. My main role as a Board member
is to organise and coordinate functions. This role is very demand-
ing and normally I organise the annual dinner dance and a few bus
trips for the organisation.
I have been a financial member since 1993 and it is hard to be be-
lieve as only seems yesterday that I have joined 4EB. Initially, I joined the group helping to
read the news and after that is history. I have been elected to be the convenor of the group
and continue to present two programs per week. The Maltese group broadcast Tuesday from
6.00am to 8.30am and Sundays from 4.15pm to 5.15pm.
As an Executive Board member, I have represented the station at various levels of govern-
ment, not-for profit organisations in Qld as well as many multicultural festivals. I am always
available to provide help in any area within my capacities.
As a convenor of the Maltese group as well as the Maltese Association of Qld, I organise a bus
trip once a month; engaging with fellow Maltese in the South-East region. These trips offer
opportunities to engage with the members, collect membership payments new and renewals,
radiothon and inform the community of all the activities that the Station is doing.
In a nutshell, I love what I do for the whole of 4EB as well as for the Maltese community.
I take this opportunity to thank all the members that supports the functions and the warm
friendship.
Should you see me around the station, stop and say Hi, and lets keep working together to
support this wonderful organisation which has given us so many hours of entertainment, mu-
sic and news.
Kind Regards,
Lucy Stewart

Hi All!
Well! I have been back at 4EB for one month already and a lot has been
happening. The Dinner Dance on the 29th of July was thoroughly enter-
taining and we must thank Lucy for organising the event as well as all of
those who performed on the night. The office has been very busy
throughout July and August taking memberships and it is important for
all Programming Groups to get the necessary members for the airtime
held. Airtime will be discussed at the Convenor’s meetings in July and
August. Also, we will be trying to provide some new ideas at Convenor’s
meetings so hopefully over the next few months this is the case!
We welcome back Jeff Milne as the new Training Coordinator at Radio 4EB and look forward to
him working with all broadcasters and staff sharing knowledge and positive thoughts. Also, we
welcome back the Outside Broadcast van which is back in the car park ready for use for all
broadcasting groups.
Unfortunately, overall costs have gone up for 4EB and income has not so I will be working out
how we can remain with budget making sure that 4EB makes the most of what it can within a
tight budget framework. We welcome any ideas for fundraising, and look forward to more
membership payments as well as a successful Radiothon. This year the theme will be 4EB’s
‘THANK YOU’ Radiothon. A chance for supporters to say ‘Thank you’ to our valuable volun-
teers and make a donation to the station we all support.
There will be some follow up meetings to work on the station’s strategic plan and this will be
publicised once confirmed. And finally, make sure you keep the 17th of September free and
come along the AGM at Radio 4EB and participate on the day.

Station Manager
R.I.P. Steve Blair On July 21, 2017, 4EB lost one of its dearest members, Steve Blair. Steve
was one of the founding members of 4EB and he helped build the first of-fice & studio, in West End, and restored and erected the original AM trans-mitter tower.
Steve was a major force at 4EB and also at 4ZZZ station in the late 70s,
through his great skills as a lawyer (later a barrister), and commerce grad-uate with his passionate hobby, electrical engineering.
In recent months Steve has been in very poor health after operations over 25 years to remove three brain tumours.
From the bottom of our hearts, Thank You Steve for all the great work that you did for 4EB’s big
family, and “Rest in Peace”.

NEMBC Women's QLD State Forum 2017
On the 12th of August, Radio 4EB hosted the National Ethnic and Multicultural Broadcaster’s
Council (NEMBC) “Women in Radio” State Forum. This was the second time 4EB have had the
privilege of hosting this Forum, the first was in 2014.
The forum had a wonderful program with the opening by Minister for Employment and Indus-
trial Relations Minister for Racing and Minister for Multicultural Affair the Hon. Grace Grace,
and guest speakers included NEMBC President Dr Tangi Steen, Vice President of NEMBC and
4EB President Mr Nick Dmyterko and Ms Joan Pease MP Member for Lytton.
For the afternoon session a couple of workshops were held. These were “Creating a Balanced
Program” with Jason Hagen, Radio Skills Trainer, and “Tips on How to make the most of Au-
dacity” with Michelle Brown, Program Coordinator from BEMAC.
This was a free event and all enjoyed the opportunity for networking and attending the work-
shops, with guests attending from as far away as Cairns.
Radio 4EB is now looking forward to the National Conference of NEMBC which is going be held
in Canberra at the end of November this year.

Queensland Multicultural Awards 2017
The team from Radio 4EB attended the Queensland Multicultural Awards 2017 lunch on
Sunday 6th of August 2017 at the Logan Entertainment Centre.
Radio 4EB was a finalist in this year’s awards in the Community Sector Organisation (non-
for-profit) category, although fell short of winning the Award in that category, as it went to
“AFL Queensland Diversity Department”. The other contestants in this category were
“Brisbane Multicultural Art Centre (BMAC)” and also “La Boite Theatre Company”.
At the event, Multicultural Affairs Minister Grace Grace attended and formally welcomed all
the guests. She said the award winners were recognised for their valuable contributions to
support and promote a united, harmonious and inclusive Queensland community. “Since
1990, the Awards have recognised individuals, community groups, businesses, government
agencies and media whose efforts have helped all Queenslanders to participate in our econ-
omy and community,” she said.
The awards ceremony included multicultural performances by musicians and artists from
various cultures across the world.

German Oktoberfest 2017, Brisbane
It's time to take out your dirndl and lederhosen and get ready to celebrate Australia's largest German
festival when Oktoberfest Brisbane lands in 2017. Over two weekends in Oktober (6-8 and 13-15) in-
dulge in tradition cuisine including bratwurst and pork knuckles as well as Black Forest cake and other
goodies on the long list of German pastries, strudels, and European chocolates. Add to that specially-
brewed beers all the way from Germany and world-class wines and it's no surprise the festival rates
number one in Australia and in the top ten Oktoberfest events in the world. Enjoy the Oktoberfest Tent,
Munich Biergarten, traditional stalls and an exciting festival program including entertainment ranging
from a Bavarian Oompah band, yodeller, Alpenrosen Dance Group to the popular competitions Miss Ok-
toberfest Brisbane, Beardmeister, and Bavarian Strongmen.
Here are just a few fun facts about The Brisbane Oktoberfest:
37,000 visitors ‘embraced their inner German’ at the 2014 Oktoberfest Brisbane
25,794 sausages savoured
13,500 pretzels eaten
3,760 pork knuckles devoured
3,222 metres of Bavarian white/blue ceiling bunting used to decorate the Oktoberfest Tent
490 table & bench sets – exactly the same ones at Munich’s Oktoberfest
Mr Wolfgang Kaspar, owner of the K&K Austrian Coffee House, will talk about his experiences, being for
many years a stall-holder and organiser of the Brisbane Oktoberfest. He also offers insight what it means
to be for twenty-one years a successful small business owner, offering Austrian cuisine and hospitality.
His interview can be heard on the Austrian/German language program on Saturday, 23 September, be-
tween11.30am and 12.30pm. The German language program is broadcasted weekly on Monday from
8.30pm to 9.15pm, Friday from 9.30am to 10.15am, and Saturday from 11.30am to 12.30pm.

After a 4 year break I have returned to Radio 4EB once again as its Training Coordinator. I
have a lot to catch up and lots of new people to meet as well over the next few weeks. IT's
great to see radio training is still in demand as language groups introduce new people to
broadcasting and of course then encouraged to do the panel course. Monday night training
will resume next week Monday (28 August) from 6.00pm. Saturday panel training will remain
in recess for the time being. I am hopeful of introducing a midweek day panel training course
soon which might suit some of our current and new broadcasters as well as a second training
night if needed.
To give you a little more about my background in case you are new to the 4EB family in the
last 4 years I spent around 24 years in commercial radio covering music shifts in all formats
from rock n roll, country, easy listening and jazz. I have also spent time as a news and sports
journalist, producer, commercial production and voicing commercials. For nearly three years I
was the manager of Gold Coast community Radio station 94.1FM which carried a niche jazz
music format 24 hours a day. During my time away from 4EB I was the Business Manager for
a musical theatre training company (Harvest Rain) which now has a national profile in the
ARTS for producing arena style musical entertainment shows and involving the training of
hundreds of children in the performing arts.
It's now time to return to community radio and rejoining Radio 4EB is like coming home. I
look forward to training and passing on some valuable radio knowledge and tips for new
broadcasters and panel operators and of course sharing some ideas for programme improve-
ment to stay relevant and to be part of todays digital media landscape which is forever
changing. I am available from Monday through to Thursday.

First time in Australia - Serbian Australian Representative Council Inc (SARC)
Australian Serbs under the one roof with the SARC president Ranko Cosic
The 25th of July, 2017 marked the important day for all Serbs in Australia. On that day, the first
time in Australia The Serbian Australian Representative Council Inc (SARC) was officially launched
in Brisbane. Serbian group from 4EB had a privilege to capture and broadcast this historic moment
while standing strong and proud next to the SARC founder and president Mr. Ranko Cosic.
Mr Cosic explains more about this organisation: “SARC was created to bring together Serbs from all
over Australia and share our traditions and culture with one and another, as well as our colleagues
and partners in other communities throughout Australia. SARC is comprised of Serbs and all friends
of the Serbs in Australia.”
Ranko spent the whole week working with our colleagues and partners at Serbian 4EB Brisbane and
Blue Moon Art House Productions on a series of interviews, podcasts, video productions and attend-
ed Dinner Dance 2017 (refer to images attached). Although based in Melbourne, Ranko is still emo-
tionally connected to Brisbane, as he states all his ancestors migrated to Brisbane on their first arri-
val therefore the Brisbane naturally presented the perfect destination for launching the SARC.
Only time will tell how Mr Ranko Cosic, the charismatic, visionary leader, a brave heart Leo, always
bursting with positive energy, is going to walk the talk and transform his vision into action.
