Why Austria?
Apart from a history almost unrivalled in Europe, Austria, now situated in the “heart” of modern-day Europe, is one of
the most accessible countries to visit. Whether you travel by rail, jetliner or even motor vehicle, Austria can and will at
some stage be crossed in your travels!
A destination for all seasons, Austria offers an endless variety of summer and winter activities, most of which places it
on the “must do” list for Europe. Vienna with it’s grand palaces and historic buildings erected during the reign of the
Habsburgs; Salzburg - introduced to the world stage after the movie “Sound of Music” and also the birthplace of Mo-
zart; Innsbruck, capital of the alpine region and twice host to the Winter Olympics; and the rural towns of Graz, Klagen-
furt, Villach; the industrial city of Linz straddling the banks of the River Danube.
Austria is also a destination known for it’s culinary delights. Wiener schnitzel, apfel struedel, tafelspitz, Kaiserschmar-
ren, zwiebelrostbraten, a variety of grilled sausages such a bratwurst, currywurst and bernerwurst. Whether you want
the comfort of a nice restaurant or the time-saving “schnell imbiss” (fast food stands), you will always find satisfying
food in Austrla!. And we haven’t even mentioned the desserts and delicious pastries and torts that abound in every res-
taurant, cafe and bakery.
All meals in Austria should be enjoyed with a nice cold beer or a delicious wine. The country has several breweries that
are required by law to brew beer the old-fashioned way; original recipes—using only barley or wheat, yeast, water and
hops. White wines from the area of the Wachau, Neusiedlersee and Steierrmark are known all over Europe, while reds
are now beginning to make their mark. And one shouldn’t forget the “cafes” of Austria, particularly in Vienna. In a typical
cafe, you can get up to 20 different variations of coffee depending on your taste. Melange, verlangter, kleiner brauner,
einspanner, kapuziner, kleiner schwarzer are just a few to be found. All coffees will be served with an accompanying
glass of water to cleanse the palate afterward.
Whether you are a “culture vulture”, adventure seeker, skier, music lover, hiker or biker or just plain “tourist” - Austria
has something to offer you. We have included a selection of our most popular tours and packages - but by no means
is it all we can offer. Much of our business is offering bespoke packages for the traveller with limited time and money.
Whatever your desire, we at Austria Travel Direct can assist you.
By the way—our credibility comes from offering and arranging travel throughout Austria since 1975 when I made my
first visit to the country and fell in love with it. I hope you will fall in love with it too.

Trail of the Lipizzaners
03—17 Sep. 2014
In one form or another, this is proving to be one of our most popular tours, and now we offer it for the 9th consecutive year.
For 2014 the tour will start in the romantic island-city of Venice We then pass through Slovenia to Croatia and the port town of
Rovinj. The tour then crosses back into Slovenia to visit Lipica and Lake Bled—before crossing into Austria, with the highpoint
being a gala performance at the Spanish riding School in Vienna. Whilst the focus is on the history of the Lipizzaner stallions -
with visits to 2 stud farms, the tour will suit the traveller who wants an easy-paced tour some of the most beautiful scenery in
eastern Europe..
Tour Itinerary:

On arrival in at Venice Airport we will have a transfer driver waiting to take you to the Hotel Plaza in Mestre. Tonight you will meet your
fellow travelling companions and have a “welcome” drink and evening meal (D)
04 Sep. Venice - Rovinj
After breakfast we travel east across the top of the Adriatic Sea. A stop is made in the last big city—Trieste—where we have lunch
before continuing to the little port town of Rovinj in Croatia. After check-in at the Hotel Park, you have leisure time to explore the area.

05 Sep. Rovinj
Today we have a guided walking tour of this old port town. The narrow streets will show us what life was like centuries ago, and also
visit the imposing cathedral. The afternoon at leisure to explore the harbour-front and local craft shops. This evening we take the eve-
ning in a little restaurant overlooking the harbour. (B,D)
06 Sep. Rovinj - Lipica
Time to leave the beauty of the coast as we head north into Slovenia, and the small community of Lipica - original stud of the now-
famous Lipizzaner stallions. Afternoon check-in at Hotel Maestoso, and time to explore the facilities at the stud. Tonight we eat in the
hotel’s restaurant. (B,D)

the town centre. This evening we dine at a local restaurant. (B,D)
09 Sep. Lake Bled

A day at leisure - and there are many options available. Why not walk the picturesque Vintgar Gorge? Or take a leisurely stroll around

we eat in a local restaurant. (B,D)
11 Sep. Lake Bled - Piber

Herold in neighbouring Koeflach. Tonight we enjoy dinner at the hotel. (B,D)
