Vocab Definitions

• Binary Fission: a process where one cell divides into two identical cells

• Asexual Reproduction: a process where one parent produces identical offspring

Asexual Reproduction Type of binary fission.

1. Cell duplicates genetic material.

2. Divides into two cells.3. New cells obtains:

identical genetic material, ribosomes, cytoplasm

Vocab1.Sexual reproduction: Involving two parents who transport their genetic materials to reproduce new organisms

It contains instructions to make new organisms.

• 2.conjugation: When a bacteria transfers its genetic material to another bacteria for reproducing, it uses a thin, threadlike line to join together.

They separate after the transfer

A new combination of genetic materials.

Bacteria combine genetic materials by conjugation,

but conjugated bacteria can’t really have abilities to increase a new bacteria,

because they form different than their parents.

• They don’t have colors. They don’t have the

outer membrane.

They have violet colors They have an outer

membrane.

• It divides whether it gram colors or not.

Gram stain Gram positive= violetGram negative= no color

List of Bacteria

Gram Positive o Propionibacterium (acne)o Staphylococci (found on

skin, some are harmless)o Streptococci (can cause

pneumonia)o Clostridia (some cause

dangerous diseases-Tetanus, Botulism)

o Enterococci (inside human intestines)

Gram Negative• Salmonella (in intestines)• Helicobacter (in stomach,

liver, intestines…)• Campylobacter (in stomach,

intestines…)• Klebsiella (pneumonia)• Neisseria (Meningitis)

Bonus!• Have you ever wondered how fast can

bacteria reproduce?

• Every 20 minutes rapidly reproduce nearly five-thousand billion and billion bacteria in one day!
