2 Corinthians 3:17-18Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we, who with unveiled faces all reflecta the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:17-18 Now the Lord is the Spirit,

• and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

R.V.G. Tasker:Whatever may be the exact significance of this difficult word, the main emphasis in the verse in upon the transformation in the Christian as he contemplates the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

John 17:22I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one:

What matters is that we have an encounter with

the Lord (who is the Spirit) that brings about a transformation which

is a reflection of the splendour of the Lord

BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT IS AN

ENCOUNTER WITH GOD (IN THE PERSON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT) IN WHICH WE ARE GIVEN A PUSH /

A BOOST IN THE PROCESS OF CHANGE

Bernard McGinnMysticism (spiritual encounter) is “a consciousness of the presence of God that by definition exceeds description and . . . deeply transforms the subject who has experienced it.” If it does not deeply change the lifestyle of the person—their worldview,

their economics, their politics, their ability to form community—you have no reason to believe it is genuine mystical (spiritual) experience. It is often just people with an addiction to religion itself, which is not that uncommon.

Mysticism (spiritual encounter) is not just a change in some religious ideas or affirmations, but it is an encounter of such immensity that everything else shifts in position.

IF NOTHING CHANGES, YOU HAVE TO QUESTION THE

VALIDITY OF THE ENCOUNTER

BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT IS AN ENCOUNTER

WITH GOD HIMSELF (IN THE PERSON OF THE HOLY

SPIRIT) IN WHICH WE ARE GIVEN A PUSH / A BOOST IN THE PROCESS OF CHANGE

WHAT CHANGES SHOULD WE EXPECT?1.A deeper sense of spiritual assurance2.Greater love for Jesus … 3.Greater desire for the truth of the Scriptures4.Growth in spiritual fruit5.Evidence of spiritual gifts 6.Changes in our attitudes to others7.Greater desire to see others come to know Jesus
