This tool is designed to per-form three tasks simultane-ously; remove the extrawood from the end of thepen blank, square the endof the blank, and removeglue from the inside of thetube, which are all critical topen making. This designcan be mounted directly inthe chuck of the drill press, hand drill or 3 jawed chuck. This style cleans glue moreeffectively from the tubethan other types of pilots orreamers on the market.

The barrel facing toolcomes with a 5/8" cutter-head or an optional 3/4"cutterhead. There are 3inter-changeable pilotsavailable. The 7mm pilotfits all standard pens, pen-cils, key rings, and letteropeners, plus it can be

used on the 8mm perfumepens. The second and nextlargest size pilot fits theAmero-classic double twistballpoint, the Ameroclassicpencil and the Eurostylepens. The last and largestpilot fits the Ameroclassicrollerball and fountain pens. This is also the pilot thatshould be used on the styleof rollerball that uses a10mm tube.

To use your barrel facingtool in a safe manner, wesuggest using a vise to holdyour blank. Or, you canclamp a Pen Drilling Jig toyour drill press. With yourlathe or drill press turnedon, slide the pilot into thetube. Apply moderate pres-sure against the cutterheadsufficient enough to removethe excess wood down to

the brass. Take care not toremove any brass. Somepens will not function prop-erly if the brass tube hasbeen shortened. Completethe other end in a similarmanner.

To trim barrels in which thetubes are slightly largerthan the pilot, simply holdthe barrel with your pliersagainst one side of therotating pilot. Be sure youdo not rock the barrel.

To sharpen your tool, remove the pilot reamerand place the cutterhead ina vice to secure. The cut-terhead is composed ofhardened tool steel. Wehave found that a diamondfile stock #2555 works quitewell in touching up the cut-ting edges.
