OUTREACH & SCHOOL RELATIONSThe past…..didn’t have a Outreach Department • COC Counselor driven, counselor served as a liaison for each school• COC Counselor served as a resource to the HS counselor and made site visits and

presentations per HS request (not regular) • New HS Students came in without a clear understanding of how the college system

worked, how to get started, and general college process• Concurrent Enrollment efforts primarily fell on the HS site to promoteReestablished Outreach Fall 2011….we have an AWESOME Outreach & School Relations Dept.• Started with a Director of Outreach & School Relations (Solo 1 woman show)

• Now Consists of: • Career Coaches located at the High Schools implemented Fall 2012• Coordinator position created April 2015• Peer Advisors adopted by Outreach Spring 2015

December 2, 2016: Continuation HS Early Decision planning meeting (Fall Counselor Breakfast)

Early Decision doesn’t work for alt ed students, they need more Chabot contact during the year (quarterly) and case management approach (share ED data with HS counselors)

June 18, 2018: R4 Counselor Convening

Counselor Challenges: Communication w/Chabot departments, limited time to support students, need relationship with Chabot

Student Challenges: parent engagement, getting info & accessing resources, navigating school structures, mindset (not “college material”

February 11, 2019: R4 Transition Support planning meeting

Identified a desire to bring small groups of resilient students to campus for warm hand-off to special programs, fin aid and registration, increase “college culture” awareness
