SIH 2020- SOFTWARE REVIEW BY PRINCIPAL MADAM

Principal Madam convened a Phase – II review for the student teams

shortlisted for the SIH 2020-Software Edition along with the Technical panel.

Nurturing a ‘culture of product innovation and problem solving’ among our

students is one of the best practices of SKCET. Our students are encouraged to

participate in Smart India Hackathon 2020, World’s biggest Open Innovation

Model Contest to help them create world class solutions for challenges faced

within various Ministries, Departments, Industries, PSUs and NGOs.

Madam refined the submission contents and harnessed the creativity in each

solution to improve the technical outcomes.

EEE- PRINCIPAL MADAM COMMENDATIONS

Principal Madam congratulated team Electron Boom- Dharmalingam,

Jayaprakash, Poovarasan, and Poovendan of III EEE along with Faculty

mentors Mr.S.Boobalan and Mr.S.Karthikeyan for winning the

Commendable Appreciation Award with a cash Prize of Rs.10,000/- at

Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2020, National level Factory Automation

Contest held at B.M.S Engineering College, Bengaluru.

SKCET - CRICKET TROPHY WINNERS

Principal Madam appreciated the student team for winning the

Third Prize in SKASC Trophy 2020. Around 40 teams participated in the

State level intercollegiate cricket tournament in which SKCETians have

been selected as the Second Runner up.

S&H – PARTICIPATION IN KURUKSHETRA 2020

First year students from the Department of Civil Engineering participated

in Kurukshetra 2020 conducted by the Anna University. Students gained

knowledge on the importance of designing, planning and executing a

project by participating in the technical events.

S. Kirthika, III ECE and S. Lavanya II ECE along with the team won

Third prize in the Chess competition as a part of KOVAI TIES event held

at RVS Campus, Coimbatore.

K.Kaveena, student of First year ECE participated in the one day National

Level Workshop on Machine Learning organized by Government College

of Technology, Coimbatore.

INTERESTING ENGINEERING: DRONES WITH PIGEON WING DESIGN

A group of researchers from Stanford University's Lentink Lab developed a flying robot that has a wing design that's similar to that of a pigeon. Dubbed Pigeon Bot- the drone is able to extend its wings, bend them and move similar to birds. By making drones less rigid and more bird-like, they will be able to maneuver in smaller spaces and to handle more severe winds.

"Whenever the skeleton moves, the feathers are redistributed passively through compliance of the elastic connective tissue at the feather base. To prevent the feathers from spreading too far apart, hook-shaped microstructures on adjacent feathers form a directional fastener that locks adjacent feathers," the researchers wrote.

Armed with that knowledge they used real pigeon feathers to build the flying robot. The PigeonBot has 42 degrees of freedom that control the position of 40 elastically connected feathers via four servo-actuated wrist and finger joints.

The flight tests demonstrate that the soft feathered wings morph rapidly and robustly under aerodynamic loading. In flight tests, the researchers found that both asymmetric wrist and finger motion can initiate turn maneuvers—evidence that birds may use their fingers to steer in flight."

The Creative Club of SHA conducted an event entitled’ Fun With Maths’ for the

First year students to enhance the computational skills of the students.

Second and Third year students from the Department of ECE presented

their innovative ideas for the problem statements given by Smart India

Hackathon. Dr. S. Sophia, Head of the Department along with the

project mentors reviewed the projects and gave their suggestions to be

incorporated in the project for the future enhancements.
