production base shall comprise five core elements: (i) free flow of goods; (ii) free flow of services--financial services
and air transport(iii) free flow of investment; (iv) freer flow of capital;(v) free flow of skilled labour.
In facilitating the free flow of services (by 2015), Actions: i. Enhance cooperation among ASEAN University
Network (AUN) members to increase mobility for both students and staff within the region;
ii. Develop core competencies and qualifications for job/occupational and trainers skills required in the priority services sectors (by 2009); and in other services sectors (from 2010 to 2015);
iii. Strengthen the research capabilities of each ASEAN Member Country in terms of promoting skills, job placements, and developing labour market information networks among ASEAN Member Countries.
Opportunities & Threats
Advantages & Disadvantages : Thailand
How to adapt?
Challenges• Think AEC as a country, how to operate, manage and
collaborate within that size• Think ASEAN, a system is needed to be in place for the
expansion to connect, to share and to work seamless within ASEAN-level organization
• A system that can link all hospitals together as a show case.• A system that can serve the expansion plan in ASEAN.
Situation of Nurse around the world Nurse shortage around the world The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the world
needs to increase the number of health workers by more than four million
Philippines. India and China are now actively sending their nurses overseas
In US, shortage of registered nurses was at around 6 percent or 531,666,000 in 2020
In the U.K., the predicted shortfall of nurses will reach 53,000 by 2010
To practice as RNs in the US, all foreign nurses are required to pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN)
Nurse in ASEAN 8,000 to 9,000 Filipino nurses have gone overseas
on an annual basis India ~ an aggressive player in the supply market
for foreign nurses ~ PR China ~ an emerging star with strong
government support ~ Japan ~ a new destination for foreign nurses ~ Singapore ~ an open and transparent policy for
foreign nurses ~ Malaysia ~ an open policy with a special scheme
for foreign nurses~ Thailand ~ enhancing the national capacity to cope
with the shortage ~
