Johnny Appleseed’s dream was to plant apple trees all over the Western United States. His real name was John Chapman.

John was born in 1774. He died in 1845 and so he lived 69 years.

When John was 23, he had an idea to go to the west and plant apple trees. He knew the settlers were moving west.

John dreamed of planting apple orchards for the settlers in Pennsylvania. The snow was cold but that didn’t stop John.

When John reached pennsylvania, he got to work. He pulled weeds and planted apple trees .

John made friends with Native Americans. The Native Americans showed him where to find the best food.

After a few years the settlers arrived. So John sold his apple trees for 2-3 cents.

Before long there were many settlers in Pennsylvania. So John moved to West Ohio.

John traveled nearly 50 years. Every where he went, he made friends.
