Tomonaga’s beginning.

Graduated in 1929 with Bachelors degree in physics.

Earned his bachelors degree in Kyoto Imperial University.

Spent 3 years doing graduate work at kyoto.

Moved to Leipzig, Germany, from 1937 to 1939.

In Germany he began to study nuclear physics.

Moved back to Tokyo in 1940 At the Tokyo Bunrika University he studied the meson theory.

Befriended Dr. Hideki Yukawa, a Nobel laureate.

Was appointed Dr. Yoshio Nishina at Institute of Physical and Chemical Research.

He met Dr. W. Heisenberg in Leipzig, Germany.

Developed theoretical physics quantum electrodynamics with Dr. Nishina.

In 1940 developed the intermediate coupling theory.

Developed theory of systems consisting of wave guides and cavity resonators.

Developed theory of covariant formulation of quantum field in 1942.

Developed renormalization theory with covariant formalism in 1944.

Solved the motion of electrons in the magnetron.

clarified the nature of collective oscillations. Clarified quantum-mechanical many-body

systems.

Worked at Institute of Physical and Chemical Research.

Became professor of Tokyo Bunrika University in 1941.

Entered the Institute for Advanced Study in 1949.

Established Institute for Nuclear Study in 1955.

Appointed President of the Tokyo University of Education in1963

Won the Japan Academy Prize in 1948. Won the Order of Culture in 1952. Won the Noble Physics Prize in1964.

Published “Internal friction and thermal conductivity of nuclear matter”.

Published “elementary theory of quantum mechanical collective motions”.

Published "Quantum Mechanics" in 1949.

married in 1940. Had two sons and one daughter. Sin-Itiro Tomonaga died on July 8, 1979.
