INTRODUCTION
A newspaper is a publication intended for a broad audience that appearsregularly, often daily, and claims to contain factual accounts of recent
events. Usually newspapers are published with the intention of making a
profit. Frequently, their factual content is accompanied by
advertisements and nonfactual material intended as entertainment.
Journalists often boast that they write the rough draft of history. The
key point here is rough draft. Newspapers are written in haste and oftencontain inadvertent factual errors, large and small. Moreover, a
newspapers factual content is determined by its point of view or bias.
This point of view is shaped by the political positions taken by editors
and publishers, and sometimes shaped by the newspapers commercial
relationship with advertisers. It is also shaped by a newspapers location.
For example, the St. Petersburg Times might call a hurricane in Florida
a terrible catastrophe, while a newspaper in Idaho might ignore it
entirely.
Newspaper articles are an excellent source ofcurrent information on
almost any topic. Newspapers are considered to be primary sources as
they are written at the time an event occurs and reflect the viewpoint of
a participant or observer.

Europe's embattled leaders gave
themselves a two-week deadline to resolve the single currency
debt crisis on Monday by delaying a crucial summit.
The European Council president, Herman van Rompuy,
announced the delay after it became clear that EU leaders were
struggling to agree on proposals to expand Europe's bailout fund,
and on possible changes to Greece's second bailout.

With international lenders also reportedly making slow progress
assessing Greece's finances, the summit has been pushed back
from next Monday to Sunday, 23 October.
But with Slovakia's coalition government failing to reachagreement on the existing deal to give the eurozone rescue fund
stronger powers, the eurozone still appeared disunited.
The postponement came as George Osborne told MPs that Europe
needed to take decisive action immediately as the eurozone was
now the "epicentre" of this summer's turmoil on global stock
markets.

Sebastian Vettel 'unlikely' to break Schumacher record
Vettel joins F1's back-to-back champions.
Sebastian Vettel is "unlikely" to break Michael
Schumacher's record of seven world titles despite
becoming the youngest double champion on
Sunday.
That is the view of 1996 world champion Damon
Hill, who added that the German's true potentialis still unclear.
"Michael's record is very unlikely ever to be beaten," Hill told BBC Sport."They
changed the rules because he was winning too much. It's much more competitive
now than it ever was. Vettel has that to contend with."
Vettel clinched this year's title by finishing third at the Japanese Grand Prix behind
McLaren's Jenson Button and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, the previous youngest
double champion. Vettel, at 24 years and 88 days old, beat Alonso's record by 364
days.
