Case StudyHOW LONE STAR TRANSITIONED TO AN EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER WITH HELP FROM GROUNDS FOR PLAY
LONE STAR EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER New Braunfels, Texas
THE CUSTOMER & THEIR NEEDS: Located in New Braunfels, Texas,
the Lone Star Early Childhood Education Center is part of the New
Braunfels Independent School District.
They are dedicated to providing their children with a learning
experience of the highest quality so they have a strong foundation
for life-long learning. Their comprehensive program serves
approximately 300 children between the ages of three and four
years old.
In the transition from a Pre-K to 5th grade program to a Pre-K-only
program, Lone Star was in need of a new play environment that
best fit their needs as an early childhood campus.
THE GROUNDS FOR PLAY SOLUTION: In 2017 Grounds For
Play worked with the staff at Lone Star to determine what play
equipment best fit the needs and wants of the children.
“We wanted an area that was early childhood friendly and that
would encourage creative play,” Principal Heather Salas said.
This play environment is centered around a trike track and includes
play equipment that fosters physical, musical, and dramatic play.
There are a variety of facades surrounding the trike track including
the cafe, farmer’s market, gas station, outfitter, and vet clinic.
Dramatic playhouses and vehicles include the polytone playhouse,
beach house, school bus, and metro fire truck.
Musical play instruments include an upright piano, sound wave,
Jamaican steel drum, and imbarimba.
Other play elements include a natural garden bridge, stop signs,
and yield signs.
This play environment was created to be age-appropriate and to
encourage different types of play.
“The students enjoy being in the courtyard and playing in that
area. We love this part of our school,” Salas said.
