IntroductionBradford City: Cultural Centre City of Unesco as City of Film One of Largest Urban Areas in UK Industrial Area

Flood Problems It is well known that town center and surrounding areas

have problem with floods For that reason our team proposes a scheme with

several mountable or permanent solutions for local and non local area

Tank-Reservoir Location : Bolton Woods (area with no underground utilities, safe construction)

Tank-Reservoir (cont) Characteristics: dimensions of the reservoir are 180m

length, 190m width, 12m height. Covering area: 34200m² , capacity:410400 m³

Tank-Reservoir (cont) Material: Main material used is concrete (beneficial use in case of reservoir-tank, corrosion

resistance, strength in compression, low maintenance)Approximate Cost: An approximate figure of the cost is £3,330,000 (Taking

into account the excavation ,the material used –pipes/concrete)

Maintenance cost is approximately around £1500 for every 5-10years

Prevent of Flooding's Change the Combine System into-Separated Sewer System

WHY ?

Prevent an overflow of the river Recycled rainwater for further uses There is no problem in terms of the discharging

industrial wastewater Reduced the health risks Eliminated the bad smell Approximate Cost:£5,000,000Maintenance of the drainage system(Cleaning) Approximate Cost:£500,000

Prevent of Flooding'sCanal Road – Bradford Beck Flood Defence Embankments: Approximate Cost: £240,000 Permanent Demountable Barriers: Approximate Cost: £840,000

Sustainable Management Techniques Cycle pathFor 4.5 Km from Westfield to the end of Bradford Beck Plants all over the site Approximate Cost: £900,000

Sustainable Management TechniquesPermeable Parking (SUDS) Location: Forster Square Parking Area: 23,000 m²

Sustainable Management TechniquesFlexi Pave Eco-friendly Bonded with polyurethane  Allows the water to drain directly into the ground Porous can absorb and reduce the amount of rainfall’s

waterApproximate Cost: £2,000,000

Sustainable Management Techniques What should be done inside the city centre ?1. Green roofs.2. Green streets. Why?• Combating Runoff and flooding by absorbing and

filtering the rainwater• Improve building aesthetics• Improving Bradford’s street scene and public realm• Improve air quality• Local job creation• Extending roof life• Preventing Leaks• Reducing energy demands

Sustainable Management Techniques

1. Green roofs: Components of Green roofs: A waterproofing layer A drainage and a filter layer Soil Plants

The recommended type of plants:• Sedum (stonecrop) • Delosperma (ice plant).

Sedum Delosperma

Sustainable Management Techniques Total Area = 23500 Approximate Cost: £1,200,000

Sustainable Management Techniques

Types of Trees : Ginkgo BilobaProperties: Moderate growth and water need Resistant to pests and pollution.

According to Victoria Business Improvement District:

• 1225 street trees can divert up to 112,400 m³ of storm water runoff from the local sewer systems every year.

• Carbon and energy saving are estimated by £49,000

2. Green streets:

Sustainable Management Techniques

Sun bridge Road & Broadway Street• Length =500 m• Cost :£90,000 to £ 120,000 for 150 to 200 trees

New city parkLocationWhy?

City centre redevelopment Easy access Close to university Close to Forster square station Close to Westfield shopping centre Help the flooding problem in the centre

Skate parkAims: Bradford is a student city so

a park including a skate park seems to be necessary

Skate parks can also help to reduce storm water

Combine a modern problem with modern obsession

Include: Water harvesting systems 4 basins

Materials: Concrete Long term solution Minimal maintenance Ideal for rainy cities like

Bradford Perfect surface Steel Grind edges, rails
