cc-tapis® was created in 2011 by the traditional Persian house Maison Chamszadeh, founded in 1943 and well known in France for the quality of its handknotted rugs. The main headquarters are now in Milan, where a team of designers innovate through a new approach to traditional methods. Undyed raw materials, innovative weaving patterns and techniques are a key part of the process. All cc-tapis® rugs are completely handknotted by expert Tibetan artisans in Nepal. A strong respect for materials and for the culture of this ancient craft is reflected in the company’s eco-friendly approach to every step of production, ranging from the hand spinning of the softest Himalayan wool to the use of purified rainwater for the washing of the final products, making each one of cc-tapis® rugs unique. No chemicals, acids or artificial fibres are ever used in the process. Far from mass production, cc-tapis® aims to offer a tailored service to those who understand and enjoy a high-end product, where a three month production time contains a story of ageless culture.
customization
To produce our carpets exclusively by hand means that we are able to realize any carpet custom made. We can adapt the dimensions, give many of our models new colors, or work with you on a completely new one. There are endless possibilities to create your unique carpet using more than 1200 different colors, materials like wool, silk or aloe, combined to create different textures and different heights of pile.
Between 8 and 24 weeks may be needed to produce our handwoven carpets, depending on the size, the count of the knots and the complexity of the design. Upon request we may also produce a little sample of the desired carpet.

the weaving process
In order to better appreciate and know our rugs, here is a brief resumé of the weaving process. Rugs are knotted on a loom. The model containing all the infor-mation on design and color is slipped behind the loom, for the weavers to check at all times. The vertical threads stretched on the loom are called warp, their terminal part will form the fringes of the future rug. The transversal threads are the weft, and insure firm-ness to the artefact. The knots form the pile. The kilim is the woven part at the end of the carpet, be-tween the pile and the fringes, it also can be decora-tive. Other traditional tools such as combs, brushes, carving knifes, scissors, etc are also used. Once it is knotted, the rug is shaven and, in the case of ti-betan carpets, the details of the design are carved out (embossing). In order to eliminate all unneces-sary remains, and to properly fix the color, the rug is thoroughly washed with abundant cold water, brushed and stretched out under the sunshine to dry.
materials and colors
Three materials are commonly used today in carpet production: wool and silk for the pile and cotton for the warp and weft (it offers excellent resistence and therefore a longer life to the rug). Aloe and linen may also be used. The colouring is done in different baths. A first alum bath is given to prepare the fibre for the fixing of the colors, given by natural color-ings in successive baths. Chemistry may also be used to obtain more complex colourings.
The production of cc-tapis is based in Nepal. The rugs are knotted using the tibetan technique. All workshops are part of programs united against illegal child la-bour.

The rugs from the Contemporary Collection are characterized by geometrical patterns, some strong and eclectic, others more quiet and calm. A continuous reinterpretation of classical patterns taken from the history of interior decoration, resulting in time-less design with a strong personality. Wool and silk are used to create an interesting and new perception of the designs and ornaments. The whole collection is easily customizable in size and color.

All undyed wool with bright colors shining through. A run-down effect from a brand new technique, the new “Oldie” collection seems to enjoy the contradic-tion. Thanks to a new knotting technique, the bright colored cotton warp is randomly visible through the undyed himalayan wool pile, resulting in an all natu-ral “OLD” effect, obtained with no use of acids or any other chemical products.
