Public and political pressure remains to make greater use of
more energy efficient modes

In its 2011 White Paper, the European Commission has presented an ambitious
strategy for a more competitive more resource efficient transport system
which should increase mobility and at the same time reduce carbon emissions
from transport by 60% by 2050.
