As Mayor, and on behalf of City Council, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 89th annual Grey County Kiwanis Festival of Music - Virtual Festival 2021.
We are very fortunate to have a festival that is dedicated to the encouragement, instruction, and celebration of young musicians in Grey and Bruce Counties.
This Festival would not be successful without the planning and efforts of board members, sponsors, adjudicators, volunteers, teachers, and parents. Thank you for your enthusiasm and participation as we continue to support and encourage aspiring musicians.
To the participants, thank you for your commitment and appreciation of music. I congratulate each of you for taking part in this year’s virtual cultural event. I look forward to viewing the Festival of Stars Awards Concert video, which is new for 2021.
Owen Sound is an arts and culture centre. We have over a dozen studios or galleries as well as unique restaurants and shops in our heritage downtown. We are closely entwined with our pristine natural environment with great views of the Niagara Escarpment and the blue waters of Georgian Bay. There is something here for everyone and we welcome visitors back when it is safe to do so!
Enjoy the Music!
His Worship Ian BoddyMayor, Corporation of the City of Owen Sound
Message from our Festival ChairWelcome to the 2021 Grey County Kiwanis Festival of Music! It is a great pleasure to provide adjudicated music classes in a virtual format this year! We are fortunate to have the ability to do this amid the health and safety restrictions associated with Covid-19.
It is important to acknowledge the firm resolve of the Festival Board to create an online Festival. The willingness and adaptability of students, teachers and other community
members are also greatly appreciated for supporting this challenge. Our Festival Coordinator, Karen Kyle, has worked tirelessly to make all the arrangements needed for 2021. Special thanks to Linda Hawkins and Karen Schlacht for their assistance with the registrations and videos.
None of this would be possible without our partnerships with the Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound, the Meaford Kiwanis Club, Tamming Law and Mix 106.5. Many sponsors, advertisers, and stakeholders have shown support for the Festival. The Dorothy Wakeford Memorial Donation allowed reduced registration fees to encourage participation. Adjudicators hired for 2020 graciously agreed to be re-hired for this year. Efforts such as these reinforce the belief that the Festival is a valuable experience that should not be missed.
Congratulations on all your hard work and perseverance! I hope all entrants have a great experience with the Festival!
Mark HendryChair, Board of Directors
P. S. The Festival of Stars Awards Concert video will be available on our website starting April 27, 2021. Please consider donating at www.kiwanismusicfestival.net
