CERTIFICATE OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD)
Offered through the Career Services Office
The Certificate of Professional Development allows participants to develop and improve professional skills identified within the Blackhawk Technical College Core Abilities. These programs are open and free to all students, alumni, and the community. The next pages will outline certificate checklists and requirements. Training opportunities are presented by skilled facilitators that include faculty, staff, and business/industry leaders in our community.
Program Benefits:
• Specialized training and feedback on skills in relation to the BTC Core Abilities.
• Experiences that can be applied in the workplace and will allow participants to stand out from other applicants in the hiring process.
• Empower participants to take charge of their professional development and job search process.
• The opportunity to improve networking skills and develop relationships with employees and members of the BTC community.

The Certificate of Professional Development focuses on the following key areas:
Professional Communication & Technology Applications Participants will learn and demonstrate written, oral, and non-verbal communication skills that are expected in today’s workplace. Participants will enhance their skills in communication and networking through the use of the latest technology.
Professional/Personal WellnessThese programs are designed to provide participants with tools that will prepare them to effectively maintain personal well-being, manage change, and efficiently manage conflict. Participants will engage in a variety of activities and programs that will provide opportunities to demonstrate skills in professional relationship building, conflict management, and adapting to diverse situations.
Professionalism in the WorkplaceParticipants will have a better understanding of professionalism and how to transition their personal skills into a professional setting.

Certificate of Professional Development Requirements
(Most can be completed in any order)
The Certificate of Professional Development (CPD) is self-paced for ease of completion, but in order to complete the Certificate of Professional Development participants must complete the required activities listed within this booklet.
TRAINING/ACTIVITIES:
The Application Process: Resume Tips & Tricks
* Submit resume to Career Services via Blackboard for review after training
* Upload resume to WI TechConnect after reviewed
Creating a Social Media Presence for Employment
* Create an online employment presence and submit link to Career Services for review using one of the following:
• WI TechConnect
Networking for a Career/Job Fair
* Attend a career/job fair (on/off campus) and submit reflective evaluation after attendance
The Interview Process: Selling Yourself in an Interview
* Schedule a Mock Interview with Career Services office after training
Attend a BTC Employment and/or Leadership Conference
* Submit reflective evaluation after training
Complete three (3) hours of volunteer/civic engagement (i.e. involvement in college club, community organization, community service with an individual or group)
* Upload proof of hours and reflective evaluation after completion of volunteer hours
Certificate of Professional Development Requirements
TRAINING/ACTIVITIES:
Attend an event that promotes social and racial justice (i.e. BTC activity or program related to diversity, cultural field trip for any class, or other community educational program/activity)
* Upload reflective evaluation after attendance of event
Complete the “Not Anymore” Sexual Assault Prevention Online Training and earn certificate studentsuccess.org/blackhawk15/notAnyMore/login
* Upload certificate after completion of training
Attend Business Etiquette Luncheon or Dinner
* Submit reflective evaluation after Etiquette Luncheon or Dinner
Stress & Test Anxiety Management
* Submit reflective evaluation after attendance of event
Customer Service in the Workplace
* Submit proof of completion for one of the following:
• On campus employment or BTC mentoring program
• Internship or Job Shadowing Experience
• Informational Interview
Complete final Self-reflection & CPD Survey
* Submit self-reflection & survey on Blackboard

Upon Completion, participants will receive:
* Certificate of Professional Development listed on a Blackhawk Technical College Official Non-Credit Transcript.
* The opportunity to receive a letter of reference from the Career Services Office outlining involvement in the program and the different activities completed.
- To receive a letter, please complete a record release form with Express Services and email Alicia Acker.
* An invitation to the Blackhawk Technical College Student Awards Ceremony, to recognize completion of the Certificate of Professional Development.
* The opportunity to apply and be admitted into the Leaders Excelling Academically & Professionally (LEAP) program.
- Applications will be available through the Career Services Office.
- The LEAP Program will begin in the fall semester.
