When you meet them, be sure to introduce yourself: tell them your name, year,and that you’re a potential major in their department. Be DIRECT about whyyou’re there!

Do your homework - be sure to research faculty in your department of interestto see if they’re a good fit. Choose 2-3 that you feel you could work with.

Ask them if they’re available to be your faculty advisor. Don’t be offended ordisappointed if they say no - they may have a lot of advisees already. Thankthem for the meeting and remember they can still serve as a resource foryou on campus!
